Just curious how y'all display your finished builds. I just finished a T-62 that looked awesome on the workbench, but now the color tones look weak and sickly against the wooden shelves it is on.

I find that displaying my armor models is trickier than my aircraft, which can look okay just about anywhere.

Tanks packed too close together (e.g., on a Ikea Detlof shelf) look sorta weird.

So what do you all do?

I mount each of my armor models on a base. That way I am handling the base, not the model. The bases also separate the models so there's a few inches between them. They are just lit on the shelf by room lighting unless I take one out to show it.

I use a diecast car plastic display case that comes with a clear plastic cover over the base. I create a diorama on the base, mount the vehicle and put the plastic cover on to keep dust out. Then it goes onto the shelf. Auto art makes one for $12.

I do the same but use a slightly larger case. I shop Hobby Lobby for the Pioneer Plastics "Mini Helmet Display Case". These cases are stackable as well. $9.99.

For those of you lacking shelf space, I suggest using acrylic plastic risers. It's like creating a second shelf and you can place models above and underneath the risers.

I've bought a glass display case from Ikea. It has four glass shelves, but I got a local shop to put an extra four supports onto the supplied rack which gives me 8 shelves (including the base). I also got an extra four glass shelves from a local glass merchant. You will find models look much better on glass shelves and the top ones don't shadow the lower ones so much. You can get 4-5 1/35th tanks on each shelf.

Parked closely together on tightly spaced glass shelves in a large disply cabinet. Looks like the storage sheds at an armour museum ....
The only possible solution with more than 200 finished models.
SWMBO wants me to replace the glass doors on the display cabinets with something "solid"

I have five 6' bookcases some with glass shelves some wood. Unfortunately no doors so dust is a problem.

In their respective boxes with all parts firmly attached to their sprues.

For some reason or other I come to think of Schroedingers cat:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat.
The untouched sprues in the box could represent the starting point of an absolutely stunning model, supderdetailed, correct down to the tiniest little detail, perfectly painted and weathered. An eye catcher and show winner
OR
it could end up as a total disaster. However, as long as the parts remain firmly attached to the sprues we will simply never know. The potential for a perfect work of art is there just as well as the beginnings of a major disappointment and future trash bin fodder.

Are the best models actually the unbuilt dreams instead of the failures?

My primary concern is dust as it is a pain (add potential mishaps) to clean a growing number of builds. So I put them in acrylic cases. They come in various sizes thus I can put 2 or 3 models depending on the size. Moreso I can stack these acrylic cases, maximizing shelf space.

That is funny.

As a wood worker I build cabinets for them.
With doors.
Not that hard if you have a table saw and a router, miter box.
And a Lowe's and Home depot to get close to size you need.

Makes it easier then having to mess with a 4 x 8 sheet of 1/2 Veneered plywood, or MDF veneered. Some wood for a face frame and done deal.

I have a big glass cabinet which I bought for a few bucks from a jewelery that was closing down,is really spacious with the top that also makes me a work bench for when I need a flat surface when using PE or I have to work with putty and other similar materials, and below it has a space where I keep materials etc ..

I have the same cabinet in a different finish. It survived getting moved 3 three times in its lifetime so far!
