Dragon produce a stug iii labelled as early production 1943 and is kit number 6620, the picture shows the vechicle which has a what looks like a pipe above the wheels and I wonder what it is or is for, does anyone know?

It is a spare torsion bar. That was a common way to carry one on a StuG.
BTW that kit depicts a StuG III F8, not an A. It is a really good kit.
