O.K. I confess this might be an academic thread, but I wonder how long it usually might take a company to make a mould and distribute the kit. I wait for Hobby Boss MAN 5 ton truck. From announcement on FB to the showing of the kit on Shizuoka show, it took roughly 4 months. Now we have recently seen the boxart on HB homepage. So how long ´til the kit hits the shelves on the LHS? On the other side I guess there are some announcements that will never hit our benches.
BTW I am pretty sure that some will be surprised/shocked about the pricetag.

I wonder the same thing about the new Tamiya Sturmpanzer IV. It's been announced and there are sprue shots and pictures of the built up vehicle but still no release date. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Yet I can't order it from Hobby Link Japan? I'll try an online store here in the US. Thanks.

Tamiya tends to announce very shortly before release. On the other hand, it took Dragon about 12 years to issue their Sd.Kfz. 252 ammunition half track.
Scheduling varies depending on whether the release announcement is intended as a trial balloon to gauge customer interest, or whether it's a real project that is ready to hit the shelves soon.
Sometimes it's a matter of cash flow. Trumpeter has a seemingly endless supply of new releases, and is apparently very well capitalized. AFV Club is much less so, and its releases, even of kits that share several molds (like the M3A3 and M5A1 Stuart tank kits), can drag out for years.

All manufactures take different times to announcement to release, genereally, if Tamiya announces a kit, with in a few weeks it will be on review sites/magazines, and within 3 it can be in your hands, Meng & Takom seem to have similar time scales. Dragon go to extremes, as mentioned, 12 years for one, recent release have all been within 2-3 months (M48A3 Blazer for one).
Airfix (ok, aircraft) has a crazy idea of 12 months, announce at the UK IPMS Nats, and relase at the next one, if they were a CN manufacture Trumpeter would counter their release the same day and have it in the shops within a month or so. Then there's AFV Club, announce, and maybe release, or maybe not they showed shots of their M48, a few years back, then nothing, which is their rep.
Also, don't expect a world wide release on the same day, Tamiya seem to release most kits in Canada first now, then Europe, then USA and Asia, Japan may or may not be first, this probably has a lot to do with reducing the number of kits sold via ebay/HK stores to the euro/CA markets.
