Hey guys,
Recently I've been insanely interested in the Vietnam War. I recently built Tamiya's M113 A.P.C., and I have to say, it was a damn fine kit and I'm proud how it turned out. I'm thinking about building a 1/35 UH-1 Huey of that era, but I don't know of anywhere I could find one. Any suggestions? Also, any other Vietnam-era armour or vehicle suggestions would be greatly appreciated and considered.

Many thanks,
Kurt

Hello, you're in luck, there are a number of 1/35 Viet Nam era helicopter kits out there... take a look at this link for starters: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/147832-mrc-ba104-uh-1c-huey-gunship, I happen to have this kit and would be willing to part with it if you'd like to trade.

Also out there is a CH 46 Chinook from Trumpeter, if you're after something larger than the UH 1 Huey.

Plus, there is a very comprehensive tread on 1/35 helo figures here, I'll try a search for you.

Pm me if interested in a trade, otherwise good luck with the search.

Hi Kurt,

There is also the iconic UH-1D with the door mounted M23 armament subsystem and 4 man crew.
See here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DRAGON-3538-1-35-UH-1D-HUEY-Helicopter-w-4-Crew-/151910355944?epid=5003305583&hash=item235e9013e8:g:~CMAAOSwx-9WvXtP

There is also the Panda Models kit but this is what Dragon
reboxed and added the 4 man crew and PE.

You can find a review here:

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joe

Kitty Hawk recently released a 1/48 UH-1 that Floyd Werner helped design that is reviewed on Hyperscale in new kit news back on July 11. The kit was supposed to be released in 1/35 first. Don't know when it will be released but if you're not in a hurry, you might wait for that one. If it is anything like what the review is for the 1/48, it will be far superior than anything out there now...I think.

Jeff

Oh yeah...Dragon also just reissued the OH-6A that has been out of production for a while. It is pretty nice out of the box but CMK makes an interior, exterior, and engine update for it.

Armor--
Maybe AFV Club Centurion, M35 Guntruck "Nancy" (but it won't be accurate as is), M42 Duster, and new almost out M113; Dragon M48 and did they ever release the M67 Flamethrower that was in the works? Real Models makes some gun truck conversions.

I know there are more but that's all I can think of off my head.

The Tamiya M113 really isn't Vietnam era, but something you might have seen in 1964 with a training unit in the states. If you want a combat zone M113, you either want the Academy or the AFV kit.

Kitty Hawk is going to do a 1/35th UH-1d slick, but carries all the do-dads to build a rocket ship or a gun ship. Look for it in the fall of the year from what I've been told.

The gun truck kit is off the M35 chassis. Most gun trucks (with a quad fifty) used the M54 chassis, but sure some folks did a few on the M35 frame (been way over loaded). There's also the M551 Sheridan (not perfect, but doable). The Tamiya M48a3 as well as the Dragon kit are pretty good. Roden does an M37 truck, and just about every unit had them.
Plus there's several very nice howitzers out there now.

Myself, I'm holding out for the 1/35th slick from Kitty Hawk

The others have pretty much covered what is available for Hueys out there.

A recap:

The Dragon (ex-Panda) UH-1D/H kit is pretty good. It has a few issues though. Here is some info on building/correcting it. Unfortunately, the pics are gone as is Cobra Company now. Lone Star Models bought the CC molds and stock and is now offering some of them.

Revell's old 1/32 UH-1D/H is also pretty good, but also has a few issues that need to be fixed. And yes, 1/32 is close enough to 1/35 to work fine together. Lone Star models also has the older 1/32 CC sets as well.

MRC/Academy's UH-1C kit is excellent. A top notch kit.

Dragon's OH-6A is really nice too.

If you can wait, Kitty Hawks forthcoming (hopefully) 1/35 Huey should be awesome based on how their 1/48th version looks.

Here is the link to the 1/35 Helo Crew thread too.
