I will soon be ready to paint the lower hull and road wheels on this Meng kit. However, the center hub on the road wheels are molded on and are solid. As on the real vehicle these are clear/glass so the fluid can be inspected I am looking for suggestions as to how best to go about painting them. I guess I could paint them all an oily black color but it is my understanding that the "full" line is actually only about half way up the hub so painting the entire hub would not be entirely correct. Suggestions?

Dust and dirt tend to stick to them, so it's really hard to even tell that they are clear on the real thing unless it is clean.

Maybe some Tamiya X19 smoke would do the trick ?

Ok thanks. So one option would be general dust and grime, although I was not going for a heavily weathered vehicle. Still, I guess even a little bit of oil/lubricant on and around the hub would attract dirt.

I painted mine black and added a layer of Tamiya Smoke. Don't forget to paint the center bolt sand or green! The solid wheel hub is certainly a negative to this otherwise wonderful kit, but honestly it is not that noticeable on the real vehicle.
