I found a few of these in Syria, some are obviously field modifys, including one on a Ural, but what version T-72 is this? The Kontact 1 looks like it was patterned off the T-72B/B1's. I'm curious what it is.

It does look like a B or B1 model, but those aren't supposed to be there. I know the SAA has reported getting the T-72B 1998, the T-72B3 and the T-90's, and nothing on the B or B1 with the K1. It's confusing to say the least.

IIRC they were recently ID'd from better pics as Russian supplied T-72A's.

Thank you. Another T-72 I have the urge to build.

It's a T-72B model 1985. It could possibly be a B1, but there are a number of other photos of these vehicles in the same camo that are all B types.

T-72 B1 Trumpeter kit #05599 (a great kit but not a cheap one). You may need to replace the barrel since most of the pictures show the thermal sleeve off. Pictures of Syrian T-72 B's are rare but you will notice that the cammo is very similar to units used in Ukraine (same stocks?)

Thanks guys. I did a search by the picture name and found where I got this picture, and silly me it is identified as a T-72B.

From what I learned the SAA got some T-72B's late in 2015 around the same time the T-90's arrived. No quantities, but at least 3 from the pictures.

I have the Trumpeter kit of the B/B1. I am in the process of making it into a T-72B 1989 version to go with my T-72B3.

I have seen quite a few pictures of this tank, but none that show if the anti-radiation panels are there on the turret. Does anyone have any info to confirm this, I ask because if the panels are not there, using the Trump. kit would require surgery to remove them, while the Meng kit has them separate right?

I looked through my pictures and I am sorry but is too hard to tell. Just my opinion I think you would be O.K. leaving them on. If you look at the later Syrian T-62 M's they have anti-radiation shielding. You can also look at the ERA layout on the turret, if it did not have the shielding then the most of the ERA would sit a little lower on the turret. Two things I always remember, never say never on Syrian armor and that these tanks came from Russian depots of different models. The Meng turret has separate shielding but you will have to fill all of those locator holes.

There are several pictures of these tanks with the gunners hatch open that show it has the shielding. I have a couple pictures of a tank with the rear bin missing, and the shielding can be seen on the turret. However I can't be 100% sure it is a B model other than the source site identifies it as a B.

I did look closer at the turrets, and all the ones that clearly show the gunners sights are B's, none were the B1, so that's the version I am going to do, one of these days anyhow.
