two nights a go ( 5 o clock in the morning actually) i was watching Discovery Channel and suddenly after a reptile documentary , i see a very interesting documentary on a Sherman DD.
This specific tank has been in the bottom of Italian sea for almost 60 years now , after it was send there with its carrier ship. So a company of 5 Italian guys (some of them served in the Army i think) decided to set an operation of getting it up , to bring it in a museum.
So it was marvelous to see the whole iten to drag the Sherman out of the mud at first and then, try to lift it up. After some days that the Sherman DD was brought under the ship , the hooked up a special very thick rope to pass it over to one side , in orfer to lift it. And then after many weeks of planning and hard work and many money spended, this special enforced rope broke!!! and the Sherman went down to the bottom again. The amazing part is that as the ropes were handed over the tank the gun barrel and other parts showed to be brand new allthough it was for halfg a century under the salted water . THEY MADE THEM VERY STRONG IN OLD TIMES !!!!!!! thats the result . If you havent seen this and you have a chance dont miss it its very nice and maybe a Dio Idea for a ship to lift it up from the sea??? I can imagine i need two years to build it !!!!!!!
