I just noticed that the Dragon Syrian T-34/85 is out, photos of the kit are up on the Dragon USA website. Comparing the kit photos to photos of the real thing, the details seem to be correct, and in all the right places. I'm far from an expert though, but it would be nice to see Dragon get something right for a change.

Glad this one wasn't Black Label Mathew, I'm looking forward to the Syrian MK IV release also. I understand their PZ IV kits were excellent for the most part.

I hoped they would include newly tooled turret in the kit, since most Syrian T-34/85s used the postwar Czech-manufactured turret which looks quite different from the Dragon T-34/85. For me the kit is a bit of disappointment.

They are very much over the older Dragon Panzer IV from years ago.I am thinking of getting one of these Syrian Panzers and building a hybid with different parts of the earlier IV versions.

I was hoping that was not the case Cowboy, was it the shape of the turrets that differed? I ask because all the other details seem to me to be correct.

Dragon is showing their standard "flattened" style Russian production turret and the rounded exhaust mounts. Most Syrian T-34/85 were Czech production with a sharp angled turret side and serrated exhaust housings. Dragon just added the machine gun cupola to their already existing kit. A definite "meh" and a miss on their part. Once upon a time they did the T-34/85M and actually had the tool boxes and road wheels. Now all they did was the machine gun and ignored everything else.

Or so it appears at this point.

Is there a good kit that represents that particular variant Stephen? The gun mount is available as an aftermarket item from FCModeltrend, although the decals would be nice.

AFAIK, no. Building the whole matter from scratch is the only option as of now, but who knows what hopefully comes in near future.

There are several resin turrets out there as well as whole conversion sets with the proper exhausts .

Let's hope that before kits arrive on shelves Dragon can be bothered to do a new turret. All the new molds they did for German prototypes but can't be bothered here.

I'm not going to hold my breath for that one Stephen, too bad. Do you know which companies make those resin turrets?

Chesapeake, CMK and MR Modelbau all have made a Czech production turret set. Look over at the news post for this kit.

Bugs me as well that they are not showing photo etch for the engine screen, which has been common to most all of their kits for a while now. The re-box of the NVA T-34/85 did not have these screens, so I'm concerned this kit won't either.

Unfortunately, it seems that the only consistent thing about Dragon releases lately, is that we will be consistently disappointed, with easily avoided issues. There is no mention of PE in the listing. Although (silver lining alert!) there ARE magic tracks!
