A question to the local experts.
Are these kits worth buying?
Dragon 3567, 3565 & 3578.

My favourite plastic dealer has two of them on sale so wondered if they are worth getting. I can live with minor issues but I draw the line at major dimensional faults. A few aftermarket bits and pieces yes but not a whole pound of resin ....

I would buy the Magach 1&2 combo kit. I think you might need a cupola for the M48A2C version. The A1 did not see much use by the IDF and was quickly replaced by the A2C.

The Magach 3 needs some corrections but nothing over the top.

Both kits could use the DEF manlet, which is around the 15$ price range and adds a lot to the kit.

The Magach 3 with the Baltan ERA blocks is a let down. Builds nice but the accuracy is far from good.

IMHO, the best choice for a Magach 3 is the M48A3 kit no 3546 with the DEF conversion.

For a Magach with Baltan ERA, the Legend resin conversion is the only way to get a decent accurate model.

Could the Magach 3 (3567) actually be the M48A3 (3546) with some extra sprues? If that is the case I can get the "3546" at a good price and add the DEF bits to get a decent Magach3?

It is the 3546 with the M60 sprue for the 05mm gun (not that good), the engine grille and fender sprue for the M48A2C from the Magach 1,2 kit, the A1 engine deck and fender sprue and the DS sprue for the cupola and M48A1 manlet covers.

The DEF set is this:

So if you want a Magach 3 go for it.

Robin,
A quick analysis of the 3546, 3565, and 3567 kits give me the feeling that you could use those kits and the DEF Magach 3 Conversion (DM35037) to give you the following Magach 3 options:

* 3546 + DEF Conversion + DEF grill door upgrade set = Magach 3 converted from either Israeli or captured Jordanian M48A1s
* 3567+ DEF Conversion + DEF grill door upgrade set = Magach 3 converted from either Israeli or captured Jordanian M48A1s
* 3565 + DEF Conversion = Magach 3 converted from Israeli Magach 2s/M48A2Cs

You can avoid the purchase of the DEF grill door upgrade set if you remove the reinforcements on the kit engine grill doors (from Mod B kit as DML cost savings move) which is doable, if you are careful.

I have probably forgotten something here but hopefully this should give you some insight to make an informed purchase.

One other thing, DEF is supposedly releasing an Urdan cupola soon which should be part of the Magach 2 to 3 conversion as I have seen few (none) Sherman all around vision hatches on those conversions. The Sherman cupolas are fairly common on the M48A1 conversions to Magach 3s. These observations are based on my observation of Magach 3 pictures from the Internet.

Good luck

John
