recently I bought the fantastic Takom T-55A. After looking through the parts and some reference pics I stumbled upon this strange square part secured with a wingnut:

What is it? Takom suggests to glue it to the turret side...

It is a mounting bracket for the driver's night vision equipment. I am not too sure why it is always depicted as been stored on the turret.
Edit: It is the mount for TVN-2 night vision device for use during road marches.
