Suffering from a little AMS and felt I really needed to put something together OOOTB - what better than a Tamiya kit? A quick trip to my LHS saw me returning with a Valentine. The OOTB idea wasn't completely adhered to but managed to put this together in a little over a day.
I did use a metal barrel as I happened to have a spare one in the stash from ITA and it is a huge improvement on the kit one. I also added a styrene wing nut from Bronco for the pick axe head mounting. Any other details were made from either removing styrene (such as thinning down the rubber mud flaps or adding parts (such as detailing the stowage bin clips) using parts fashioned from the sprues.
I'm also going to use a set of Bronco workable tracks as it will make life easier as far as painting is concerned.
I've just noticed that the top of the sightig vane has gone awol so will need to make up another prior to paint.
Comments, critique etc welcomed...

Will be painted in SCC No2 as a Lend Lease vehicle sent to the Soviets.

Great progress on the kit. I envy you - the store ran out of this kit when I was about to buy.

Home made SCC No.2 is added by mixing 5pts XF68 + 4pts XF3 + 1pt XF1 in accordance with Mike Starmer's recipe. Looks a little green in the photos but is definately pooh brown in real life!

Once dried, clear coat can be apllied in preperation for the decals.

Thanks Robert.

Clearcoat and decals are now on - will sort out some images at some stage. In the meantime, tracks have arrived courtesy of BNA...

Real lfe is getting in the way of modelling for a few days but hope to get back into things early next week.

I recently bought, and started on, this too and it really DOES fly together. Like you though I found a few areas needed filler, just a tad more than usual but not headache material. AND...in what is a first for me...missing parts! From Tamiya! I could hardly believe it; but it's only the poly caps so I can salvage some from another kit. Still, it was quite a surprise.
