Hi. Just happened to pick up the Dragon #6189 kit here a couple of weeks ago and was really impressed by the plastic on it, so I'll have to have this second one to go with the first. And they both will go well with MMiR's new Tiger book as well.

And the Stug III will be most probably a 'have-to' as well. To compare with Tamiya's Stug III that I built here a couple years ago, if for nothing else. Now wonder where I can find those Fuilmodel tracks as a really good price? That's the real killer. Plus some PE.

Guess I'm a Panzer-holic. Oh well, could be worse. Take care, Sgirty

How much more of this WWII stuff do we need. Pretty soon we'll have enough variations that they will have to subclass by where the vehicle was produced, the name of the guys who worked on it and the day of the week it rolled off the assembly line.

But I'm just ladying because I build modern armor.

Anyone notice the box art for the Sherman? The tank is sitting in a bombed out area with the hatches open and the transport support for the barrel still attached. They must have went into combat and then noticed the problem and abandon it right there!!! LOL

Hmmm, another thread turned into a "look the world is against Allied vehicle modelers" thread.

Sure, I'd love to see some modern stuff, but I'm just happy that DML is releasing new kits at a pretty darn frequent rate. More than can be said for some other companies.

Flame suit on.

Both Academy and Dragon have Russian M4A2s. Is there anything different or unacceptable besides decals to make it a Western Europe M4A2? Something weird like a special piece of equipment or hull angle exclusive to Russians?

sorry, dont want to turn it into a flame war.

its just frustrating that dml are releasing kits of a vehicle tamiya have perfectly good kits for, when there are so many other vehicles, allied, modern etc that are ignored.

cheers

Jeff-- very nice kit. I got mine from Hobbylink Japan a few weeks ago. I think the total was something $32......not too bad.

As far as I know that type of A2 late hull wasn't used in Western Europe Either the 75mm or 76mm type That late A2 hull was used by the Russians both 75 and 76 or the Marines over in the Pacific-75mm type But I could be wrong #:-)

Rumor has it that DML is going to be redoing their M1A1 into a M1A1 AIM.

Only thing dissapointing is that Tiger 2 has been already done by Tamiya, but is a given due to them doing the Porche turret verison

I'm holding off on the Academy M4A2(76) till I see the DML one since Academy kinda screwed up the angle on the rear hull, its not that big of a deal but if I dont have to worry about fixing it I'll get the DML kit instead, plus as of late Academy has been way overpriced...$45 bucks for the M36? #:-)

I understand the frustration in seeing that there are now two King Tigers out there, but take a moment to look at it from DML's point of view.

There is still a large demand for King Tiger kits, probably a pretty good hunk of money goes to still buying the Tamiya kits (I'm sure somewhere some market research is going on). DML could release a kit that hasn't been done before and risk uncertain sales, or step up to the plate and challenge Tamiya for a share of the market KT market. They produce and accurate kit, with PE and indy track links for a cheaper price. They've now upped the ante on Tamiya.

I respect them for making this call, I think it's gutsy. I have the Tamiya KT kit, and probably won't even buy the DML kit, but I don't hold it against DML. The more money they make, the more kits they release, and hopefully we will all benefit from that.

I won't comment on the Allied, German, Modern question, but I will say this. At least DML is producing kits. That's certainly more than Tamiya can say lately.

I'm with Joe on this. Another Sherman is always welcome!

And with what Rodger said, "where's Tamiya"?

Just my 2 pennies worth: Think of it this way, now you have a choice (King Tiger wise). If you don't wanna pay the $50 for the Tamiya version, and the DML is equal if not better?! Sounds like competition to me. Why did we need two Leopolds? But now we have a choice right! I, too, am glad to see DML putting out new stuff. I wish Tamiya would do something other than add a new sprue and re-release something. I go to my LHS and must see about 10 different versions (slight exaggeration) of Abrams kits (DML, Tamiya, Trumpeter, Hobbycraft), do we need that many?? I wish there were more WWII allied stuff around, but they have almost covered the majority of what we used (tank wise). Unfortunately you can only please some of the people some of the time, and can never please everyone all at one time. I think they are producing what is selling, I agree with the comment about risking an unsure sale on a new and unique kit, or make your own version of one that sells like the dickens. For instance the Tasca 'Luchs', looks cool, would love to have it, but not gonna spend $55 on a kit I haven't seen from a company that I haven't bought before. (I know don't knock it til you try it) I'm just happy all of these companies make kits at all, otherwise I would have a whole lot more money, and too much free time!!

Is it possible Dragon is trying to kill Tamiya? By producing better kits than Tamiya equal or less price it would be difficult for Tamiya to move kits. Could they be intentionally targeting popular kits?

I hope DML fixed the problems on the Kettenkrad. The first version's fit was bad and there were some missing parts.

BTW, can't afford the Tamiya KT so the DML is very good news. Competition is good

I build Allied and Axis kits and IMHO Tamiya produce the most modler friendly kits. Good detail and fit right out of the box.

DML are producing kits that are different versions than the Tamiya kits. As an example, the Tamiya StuG/StuH 111, G is an early, The DML StuH 111, G is a late.

My only problems with all the new kits being produced is:
1. Can I afford them
2. Will I be able to build half of them before I die.

Happy modeling to all.

I sort of agree with yagdpanzer except I will be dead before I get to even a 10th of the new stuff!
(might have something to do with a SLOW building time?)
