Well, better than their re-boxing of 40 year old Italeri stuff I suppose; but really not necessary in my opinion. Tamiya's new products are being almost universally praised, so beyond making them cheaper (to a degree) for modellers in Japan, I don't see the point.

Brand recognition and association.
E.g. "Wow, this company is good enough to be chosen by Tamiya so I'm going to seek it out on its own."
It's all marketing. Partnering with a known industry powerhouse is a great way to open up new opportunities and markets.
And you know Tamiya reissues quite a few of its own 4 decade old dogs quite regularly. Or 50 year old dogs like their 1/35 Centurion mark III. And quite a few remain in their catalog long after their expiration date. That Panther A and Panzer II F? Oh wait, those are two of their biggest selling kits.
Don't knock 40 year old kits. If they sell enough to finance a new mold, more power to them. Look at that the M106 and M577 are due for reissue. Those kits were current when MASSTER camouflage was used by USAEUR circa 1974-78!

What's wrong with 40 or 50 year old kits?
Many modellers are 50, 60 or close to 70 years old by now so they can get the kits from their youth

I would, I have and in doing so saved my love of the hobby. Besides it's easier to run around the room making airplane noises with an old Matchbox kit than one of the new fangled multi-media kits. Can't spin a resin propeller.

If you're wondering, the accessories and figure come from Tamiya's UE carrier.

Well, since it's not technically a TAMIYA kit, any lack of clean-up necessity will be thanks mainly to ICM. On the other hand, if Tamiya reboxed a Lindbergh kit (however unlikely!), it won't make it any less of a dog!

Well, it does look simple to build, which would be a nice change of pace after a steady diet of mega-kits. And its a Tamiya (sort of) so it should go together flawlessly (probably). Not fond of Tamiya sucking out and using other companies moulds (ie: Italeri Opels, etc)

The ICM model is a delight - complete interior, very good fit, (also reboxed by Revell ), interesting to see how the Tamiya boxing is priced!

Judging from Tamiya's past, when they rebox a kit (Italeri, ICM, etc) and add a sprue of their own accessories (fuel drums, boxes, etc) there is a significant price increase - more than justifies the addition of extras. Usually cheaper to by the kit from it's original manufacturer, then the Tamiya accessories.
