There ya go! Knew it would not be long for the aftermarket to catch up to giving us resin wheels/tires for Takom's AML's! Ordering real soon! Now if we only had turned metal barrels/metal muzzle breaks coming as well...

I have to ask: What vehicle/nationality are the civilian vehicle tires made for?

165thspc, they are civilian trucks, Japanese make. They are made for use as rocket trucks in Syria.

Nice detail, and the fact that they come with masks is a thoughtful bonus!

Of the pics I took, of AML's I transported in 1977, 1978, and 1979, sported the same tread pattern to the D.E.F release. Shaving/sanding them down a bit to give them a worn look might be key. While D.E.F.'s release might replicate the AML's most popular tire mount to/on the vehicle, there are certainly other tire manufacturer/tread patterns that can be more than substituted to the model. Photos abound of AML's show that there are other type tires used on the AML, and not D.E.F.'s pattern exclusively.

Drilling/sanding out the wheel part will be necessary with this DEF set. Hope this helps!!

Here's just an example (12ème Régiment de Dragons, Algeria 1961) :

Other tire photos/alternatives for the AML to ponder about...I'm sure there are substitutes in the modeling world out there to make the switch (click on the photos to enlarge them):

Mauritanian

Kenya

Chad

Burkina

Russian Museum

Algeria

Rhodesian

I found the great list of aftermarket wheels & tires on the DEF Models website: http://defmodel.com/
Q: is there a chart somewhere in the ionosphere which has the Actual (inch or millimeters) size of these ?
I want to "civilianize" a 1:35 scale Kurogane and am curios which set might work. I have held up a Tamiya Jeep wheel & tire and it seems about the right compromise between stock and too small that it makes the wheel well cut outs look totally out of proportion (as did my try with VW wheels/ tires!). but the sets are expensive enough if I could take my research "one step beyond" it probably wouldn't hurt anything.
thanks

I wanted to get one of the trucks, but the price turned me off a bit, $63.00 plus shipping on Hobby Search. Hobby Link has the wheel set, backorder, but no trucks.

The best deal I found was 60.00 shipped on EBay. Looking forward to getting the model.

Maybe Meng or Takon can rescue us in the future.

I have a resin set for another vehicle, in 11.00 x 16 size...all I have to do is cut out and replace with the AML wheel...then I'll have a Rhodesian wheel/tire combo. Shapeways has generic 11.00 x 16 wheel/tire sets as I recall, that would replicate the Chad and Burkina tread pattern.

I was wondering why in their wheels sets it is sometimes writing "X MICHELIN" and sometimes "MICHELIN X". It seems it is the same on real tires.
