I have been gathering pieces to do a IDF M88A1. I have an AFB M88A1, Accurate Armor conversion set, Accurate Armor IDF machine guns. I have a set of Fruilmodel T-142 tracks. Are the T-142 tracks the correct one for an IDF M88A1? The tracks in the AFV kit are the chevron type track pads (rubber band style).

Are the tracks for an M88A1 longer than what would have been on an M60?

Depending on the time frame you are depicting the vehicle, you can use both type of tracks. Since you are using the Accurate Armour set go for the T142. If I recall correctly the M88A1 track is 3 or 4 links longer than the M60 one. The Friul set will do I think, it provides extra links.

Thanks for the confirmation. AFV kit looks great, it is up next just have a T-55 to finish.

While they look like the M60 (T97E2) track, the M88 (T107) track has a slightly longer pitch 7.o4in compared to 6.94in. In 1/35 scale this difference is only o.oo2in, but in real life 1:1 scale using T142 track would require changing the M88 drive sprocket for an M60 sprocket.

Assuming the tracks are T-142 judging by the spare track block on the side of the vehicle the sprocket is an 11 tooth with a 24.504in. pitch diameter.

The M60 & M48 use an 11 tooth with a 24.504 pitch diameter. The M88 with original T-107 track would have an 11 tooth with a 25in. pitch diameter.

In 1/35th scale the difference would be impossible to see as it would be 14 thousandths of an inch. That is good news for those wanting to use T-142 tracks on their IDF M88 as the AFV M88 kit sprocket will work just fine with the new tracks.

I have found 2 pictures of IDF M88's with T-142 tracks Which would mean the use of M60/M48 sprockets. The IDF would have plenty of these on hand after switching their M60/M48 tanks to Merkava tracks and sprockets.

The end connectors would be the same. The track pitch difference refers to the length of the track shoe front to rear.
