I've searched the next and I've seen the M102 pulled by Humvees but was it common at all back in the day for it to be pulled by a M35 or a 5 ton?
I have the the AFV kits of the M35 and the M102 to work with.

Stateside, I would say yes. In Vietnam, most were out in the bush, so were air lifted everywhere they went. To be exact, I can't remember ever seeing an M102 being pulled by anything.

Pulling an M102 with a Humvee is plausible, but probably not a great idea. The reason why is the howitzer has no suspension, and will literally beat the frame of the Humvee to death. An M35 would have been far better, and an M54 would be even better. Yet overkill. The Humvee was probably on a paved road or going to the closest chopper pad.

Yes, the M35 was the initial prime mover for the M102 Howitzer. It was often airlifted in Vietnam, but in the US, Europe, Korea, etc., it was towed.




Once the HMMWV came into service in the mid '80s, it became the prime mover for the M102 Howitzer.



The HMMWV and gun could also be airlifted as a single unit.

That's just what I needed to know. and on the plus side I can do it all in MERDIC camo.

Always towed in the LIDs, and for sure in the 9th Divarty, which I served in from 1981-82. The M35 was used for the M102 Battalion (34th FA as I recall). the M54 5 ton in the M110 Battalion.
