Does anyone out there know of any unit bumper numbers for Vietnam M123A1C w/M15A1 trailer. I am almost complete with my project and can only find markings for Lil Abner. Was looking at another vehicle if possible. I will post photos of the completed truck soon.

How about the 8th Gp. 57Trans 565th Trans company truck 143 On the front bumper it would look like this. 8GP 57 T * 565 T 143. I am checking on some more units for you. I hope to have some more tomorrow.

Animal,
Thanks for the quick replies. I figured you would have something for me. If I go with 8th GP, would it have the yellow hood stripe? Also, how/ where would the markings be on the rear of the truck and the trailer? Looking forward to more later. Thanks.

The nose would not have to be yellow. I see if I can get some trailer markings for you. But if my memory serves me right , on the heavy haulers back them the trailer had the same numbers as the tractor. The only change may be the trailer number itself.

Animal,
Any more info, I'm ready to start the bumper #s. I will be going with the 8th Group truck. It will go well with my King Cobra Guntruck and 8th GP gun jeep. Maybe they will become a convoy dio?? Probably too big, we'll see.

From the info I received from fellow Nam Truckers the 815th Engineers had the 10 and 25 ton trucks. So go with the 8th Gp 815 Engineers. As far as the other vehicles the Cobra and the Jeep , you can use them in your diorama. The gun trucks and convoy CC jeeps would come from different units. It is not uncommon to see many different units in the same convoys. So any combination that you want to portray is correct. Have fun with this and lets see some photos of your work. Looking forward to seeing them.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go with the 8GP truck, I plan on putting a tank on the trailer.

Thanks again,
Gino

The usual numbering was that the assigned trailer would mirror the truck/tractor, so truck A-6 would be towing trailer A-6T.

In most cases this was true with the 815 engineers in Nam. The trucks and trailers came over together and they would try to keep them together. Of course they got destroyed from time to time. the serial number would be the original number and stayed the same but they would number all the trailers to match the tractor that was haul it. It was easier to maintain records and who was responsible for it's upkeep. If i drove truck number 131 than It would be assumed that I was responsible for trailer 131 also.
