Just seen news of an M54 5 ton truck announced by AFV Club
It's still a drawing, but hey, it's out there now!
Wonder how many of my M54 conversions from Realmodels I can build before it's released!!!

Alternatively use AFV's chassis/cab and use the rest of the conversions

There have been some loooooong gestation times for some of their announcements, but just looked and the M113 was only announced 18 months ago, and the picture they posted was looking like a parts breakdown, so I'm going to be positive!!!
But I'm on for a race!

I hope they do come through with it in a reasonable amount of time. An M54 in plastic has been on my list for quite some time.

All too long to wait for the M54 just like the M37. Just about every unit other than light infantry had several of them. About the only serious conversions I ever saw were water trucks (non-potable water) and OEM gun trucks.
Now we need a ten ton wrecker and a plastic dump truck!

seems like it was only a week ago we were rolling south on Highway One with the windshield down (Kentucky air conditioning) with our feet on top the dash! Running around 80 mph with a huge cloud of dust behind us.

I hope they come out with the 800 series trucks ie the M813, 814, 816, 817 etc.

I'm happy with the news and it looks great. I scratch built the M123 truck tractor a long time ago.

This is great news. Was wondering why no manufacturer sofar made this important truck. We can get the 2,5 tons, the later 5 tons and the Oshkosh, but the typical M-54 was missing. Looking forward to get this kit.

With this and their highly detailed M113 I wouldn't be surprised if they did a Vietnam guntruck with the M113 mounted in the cargo bed.

Real a nice addiction for Vietnam era entusiasts.
From the CAD pictures wheels seem to be split in two parts so I hope they will be hard plastic and not soft vinyle. Note it has the cargo bed split in two parts with the forward for spare wheels. It works well for many Vietnam Gun Trucks but not for all af them. Check your reference on your VGT before starting. Note all Real Model VTG have the cargo bed like AFV model so their decals will work well.
Some VGT had front wheel with civilian pattern. Real Model make two sets of them but I think some other will the same.

Now that AFV Club is going to bring out the M54, the next step could maybe be a M246? Just a thought.

most all M54's had the winch mounted on the front, so lets hope they included the option! I look forward to getting my hands on the truck. Need to study some photos of the road canvas used on the front of a 155 howitzer.

We will definitely prepare all of our conversion sets, including all GunTrucks for this new AFV Club model. I look forward to this model myself.

Ummm, don't think so ...
The M289 and the M386 were both based on the M139 chassis-cab. The M139 chassis-cab was modified to strengthen the chassis.
From Olive-Drab, link below:
"The M139C and M139D Truck, Chassis was extensively modified to provide a lower axle ratio, reinforced front axle housing, and other changes to enable the chassis to support the missile and the stress of launch. The M139 version was chosen with modified front cross members and brackets for jack stands. A long launch rail with an A-frame brace held the Honest John."
"The M39 series had both single- and dual-rear-tire models; very few single-rear-tire trucks were built. Most models had 11.00×20s with dual rear tires; tractor wreckers had larger 12.00×20s. Bridge trucks and all M139 chassis based trucks had 14.00×20s. [7] A standard military cab, designed by REO, was used. It had hinged doors with roll-up windows, a folding windshield, and a removable canvas roof. Cargo trucks and tractors could be fitted with a ring mount for a M2 Browning machine gun.
