That HMMWV engine for Tamiya's kits looks really nice. I like how everything forward of the windshield is replaced. It's about time we get one that isn't made for the ancient Academy kits. The ones by CMK and TAC Scale Dynamics are both horrible by today's standards. Now can someone tell me if the M1114 used a hood similar to the legacy HMMWV? I know the hinges are different. I am mainly interested in the underside. Bronco's is well detailed and I'd like to use it on my M1045. Now Black Dog needs to do engines for the M1114 and M1151. I need to study up and see if there is a difference.

Regards,

Eric

That Australian M113 AS4 ALV looks very interesting. But there is NO need for extending the crude old Tamiya tracks. M113 AS4 use Diehl tracks, so you go better with PSM resin tracks.

You said it Hermann, especially with those gaps in the track and the short stumpy guide horns.

All of the M113AS4 FOV now use T150F track, not Diehl. The track is the least of the problems with this kit. Engine deck is way wrong, as is the front end. Wrong headlight guards and mounts and wrong drivers hatch.

M1114's engine hood is different in front part, this is obvious. I think it'd be quite difficult to 'downgrade' Bronco's hood... There are also some minor differences on the underside and on the topside (around the holes for lifting hooks).

Yes, there are differences. One bigger (pipeline from air filter) and many smaller ones.

No, the original Mercedes G-class was first build in 1979.

They are a replacement for the Land Rover 6x6, so they are brand new vehicles.

Your welcome Vincenzo! Photos of the ALV here:

Black Dog has gained a mixed reputation. Their Fennek A2 conversion is so-so, the only thing usable is the Bugkasten-schutz. And the RSOV update is not recommendable. But I wonder if parts of the Mercedes can be used to make a Bundeswehr Aufklärungs-und Gefechtsfahrzeug AGF Serval?

Does this image show the correct engine deck, front end and drivers hatch?

Yes Robin. All the M113AS4's have the same.

Thanks Jason,
Now we "only" need a photo showing a closed drivers hatch ...

The M113 ALV needs a conversion for the conversion to make it vaguely accurate. Can't believe that Black Dog let it out. It's not like there are a shortage of photos out there of a real vehicle.

This Mercedes 6x6 looks like a lot to Land Rover 6x6 also released by Blackdog.

Hi guys,

What do you think ? Will that lav engine also fit in an Italeri model of a LAV ?

You can make anything fit if you swear at it enough...

If you have the Photobucket debacle workaround you can see some like these

here:
http://www.aussiemodeller.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10068&start=30

Note the position and size of the cargo tie down loops in these pics to the grossly oversized BD ones....

Why go to all the trouble to make a multi-part conversion that uses very little of the original kit and what it does use, being incorrect anyway? With all the resin here, why not just make the whole kit?

No , this variant just entered service with (only) the regional force surveillance units and are not generally liked compared to the vehicles they replaced.
