Thinking of a project, and unable to find the info I need on-line. Anyone know what sort of tanks were used by the 707th Tank Bn in WWII while attached to the 28th Infantry Divison? Thanks!
Damon.

Sort of significant that tanks, in this history, are never identified - just called "light tanks" or "medium tanks". Obviously they refer to Stuarts and Shermans, respectively, but were they not called these names by their crews during WWll? Or is the naming of tanks a post-war invention? (Probably called lots of other colorful names when they broke down!)

As the US only had one type of medium or light tank in service for much of the war, not much point going into more detail other than in the logistics and maintenance functions (where whether it was an M4 of M4A3 obviously matters).
In any case, Sherman wasn't an official US termat the time, as naming US tanks after US (or Confederate) generals was something the British adopted.
The British used a rifle for years that was officially designated L1A1 but always referred to as the SLR for self-loading rifle, even though that is a generic term. If you don't have multiple types in use, there isn't much value in using the official terminology every time you refer to it.
