I've got the CMK Bergenpanzer IV (kit #T35009). It is a recovery vehicle based on the panzer IV chassis (in fact, the kit includes the old Tamiya panzer IV chassis).

I am wondering if the plastic, resin and white metal parts can be added to the new Tamiya panzer IV, since I assume it is a better panzer IV chassis. And if it can be done, which new panzer IV should I get, the Ausf. J or the Ausf. H? And again, does it matter (are the chassis the same or do they differ among Ausfs?

Please bear with me I'm trying to learn the WW2 German stuff.

Hi Rob,

At least there are one diference between the ausf. H and J lower hull - the first has four return rollers and the later has only three.

Here at Missing-Links Converting a late war Panzerkampfwagen IV ausf J using Tamiya’s Panzer IV ausf H you can check the diferences between a H and a J.

Here at Track-Link Building a Bergepanzer IV using Verlinden's conversion you have an article about the construction of one.
