Im wanting to modify my Tamiya 2.5 ton truck to have the hood open so I can use my verlinden mechanics. What kind of set up do I need to hold the hood up scratch built of course. Need help on how to approach this modifycation.

I think that hood is rested against the windshield like the M-34 and 35 series trucks I think that this could be confirmed or corrected by Mr. Roo or one of the other WW 2 soft skin experts.

If one of your mechanics has his arm held up or can easily be converted to do so then why not try having your mech holding it up.

If you mean which way the hood hinges back or forth, then I have no idea!

I found this photo of a aftermarket part. It shows a support bar fixed under the hood. This is for the Gmc 2 1/2 ton USW trucks.

the hood pictured is by masters products a French company.

If you go to our own gallery and into afv. Roo's truck archieves, GMC then details yopu will find pics of what under the bonnet looked like including firewall details. I say firewall because the tamiya kit only supplies the face of the firewall. you need to build the piece between the cowl and the firewall itself.You also need to alter the radiator as the kit one is only one sided.

Aber PE set will give you all the hinges (workable) plus the stay and a lot of other goodies. You still need to do the fire wall.

hehehehe I see the words GMC and I just gotta look. After all I have built, altered created about 15 of them in the last 18 months.

Just finished the book 'The Road to Victory' by David P. Colley about the Red Ball Express (good read).
In it are a couple of pics of mechanics working on Jimmy's. Both pics show the hood leaned back against the windshield (you can see the support in one of the pics but doesn't look like it was used). One pic has the mechanic standing on the front bumper (no winch) and leaning over the radiator. The other has a mechanic crouching on top of the wheel cover with his partner standing on the ground on the other side.
Should be able to find this at your local library (sorry, no scanner).

that is because to work on any vehicle for a long length of time it was easier to undo the stay and raise the bonnet more or for that matter to remove the bonnet altogeather. So the support was used and in place 99% of the time.

Many thx 'Roo for the 'under the bonnet' pics of your GMC(?) build! I can only applaud your attempts at accurizing that area. I would be tempted to keep the bonnet closed!
