Hey, Guys!
Does anyone have the LKW 5t mil gl yet? I was going to pounce on it the second it became available (and it isn't all that available, apparently), but it is so expensive! A list price of $108.00 U.S. -- and retail prices in the low $70's and $80's? Any ideas as to why? I'm notoriously cheap, but I'd pay $60.00 without thinking. The actual price just seems excessive to me.
It looks like a good kit, but I may have to wait until the "newness" wears off and someone has it on sale. There are too many other kits coming from Trumpeter that will probably go for big bucks -- but they seem to warrant that.
Just curious!

Hi Gary,
a.f.i.k. the MAN is not yet available. Shops in Germany have it announced, but still waiting. Prices here are between 75 and 80 Euros (81USD to 86 USD). Judging from the sprues, there are several minor tweaks. I concur with you that Hobbyboss and Trumpeter charging waaay to much for a truck kit. Interestingly, the M983 retails here for 50 Euro, while the much smaller MAN goes for 75 Euros. And these prices are from major online shops, the MSRP in a brick-and-mortar shops might go as high as 100 Euros. I will wait for a detailed review here before I decide for myself.

Thanks, HermannB!
Funny you should mention the M983. Even though that was from Trumpeter, that's the model I am also using as my "model price yardstick." That's a fairly new kit, and the price wasn't outrageous when it came out. Maybe Trumpeter lost money on it? Or is demand for a MAN so strong, HobbyBoss knows they will get whatever amount they ask?
I just finished the M983 and started on the Patriot Missile Launcher, so I will have something to occupy me while waiting for the price to come down a little. Wonder what Trumpeter's KAMAZ-4310 will debut at?

Squadron Mail Order has had it for about two weeks. It goes for $87 but there is a 20% off coupon available, so $70 plus shipping. ScaleHobbyist has it for $71 plus shipping, but their shipping is usually less than SMO's.

Thanks, Kurt. Those are the only U.S. sites I have seen it on so far. I am not familiar with ScaleHobbyist, but their site looks very nice. Squadron and I are well-acquainted.

The kit is already available in Poland. I took a close look at it at my LHS yesterday and it looks excellent, except for the lack of canvas cover. But the price is very high. I decided to skip this one, but will probably get the next version, with fuel tanks on the bed.

Hi, Pawel. I like the fuel tank version too! Forgot about that one. I suspect if my LHS had the first version of the kit, it would go home with me, but having to order online/pay shipping keeps that impulse at bay...for the moment.
I, too, wish they had included the canvas cover. Sometimes even a "bad" factory cover beats the cover I can make.

It's available at Hobby Easy for US$67, though you still have to factor in shipping to your location. It may be better to wait for a while for a better price point.

Hobbyboss probably don`t include the cover so that we can see the (part) wrong interior?

I wonder how they do the tie-down chains and the quite complex pump unit. Hopefully it´s not even more expensive than the first version.

Possibility to build the cargo bed with or without cover. This is not possible with the Revell kit.
Wonder if the Hobbyboss kit offers a gunner station inside the cab, this is not the case in the Revell kit.

Too bad, I have hope for that !
So need MR Modellbau update set once again for the rifle ring mount, if you want an armed truck.
