I am wrapping up several models and want to put them on bases. Some are just on top of raw would, and some would be on groundwork. Any suggestions for sources of pre-made bases?

Any trophies and engraving shops have or can order a huge selection of bases my father in law is in this business and I always browse in some of is catalogs for my bases they have many shapes,sizes,colours and materials,they are also pretty cheap

If I'm not doing my own, I've found that the local craft shops like "Hobby Lobby" or "Michael's" have some great possibilities. They have a large variety of styles and sizes in picture frames that can be turned over and used. I've put a sheet of styrene, styrofoam, wood, or even the glass to fill in frame. Frame sides can be built up also. Another idea I've used are the decoupage wood plagues. If you're going to put in groundwork, it is usually a good idea to use a sealer or varnish for wood to prevent possible warping. Hope this helps some.

Ditto on what Mike said. Most of the craft shop decoupage plaques will need some finishing like sanding and staining for better appearance, but always apply a sealer or varnish before ground-cover like Celluclay to prevent warpage.

For me, I just find it's worthwhile to buy finished hardwood bases than to sand, prime, and stain cheap wooden bases from a crafts store, but that's just me and that all depends on how much time and effort you have. Note that one can buy hardwood plaques for dioramas too.

I also buy and use cheap wargaming plastic and resin bases and discs for 1/32 to 1/72 scale figures. You can find them on eBay very cheaply like $2-4USD each (or a whole lot for a small amount of cash), which is a real bargain. Do be aware of the cast resin groundwork as some scales max out to 28mm = 1/58 scale and is too small for 1/35.

I use IKEA RIBBA photo frame for most of my base, they are good for single 1/35 AFV display or you can make diorama setting out of it, works well for me always.

Just remove the glass cover and glue the cardboard backing to the frame using white glue and you have a ready base for your model.

It comes in various sizes and frame color.

Along a slightly different vein, last year I picked up a Hobby Master display base, HD1004 US WWII Carrier Deck, 1/48, off of ebay. The display area is 8.5" x 11". It is a printed sheet attached to a base so there is no texture to it. They have various bases in differing scales. If you're looking for something quick and easy you might want to check them out. I use pyrograuve plates(much the same as decoupage plates afaik)' You can pick then up in most craft stores or online for a couple of quid. Usually pine or sycamore. Sealed and painted up the loik the biz.

Michaels,A c Moore, Hobby lobby. all have cheap wooden plaques . sometimes 2 for a buck . All different sizes . also have Styrofoam you can shape.
