Hello there
Between other projects I dug out a kit I'd started some time ago but put away for some reason I can't remember... Tristar Sturmpanzer IV, the upgraded Ausf.I which they refer to as an "Early Version (Mid Production)".
It's the one which comes with the interior, which is one of the reasons it attracted me in the first place (the other being I do like odd-looking vehicles ).
I'm trying to find out where the radio sets were positioned. I have the PzTracts book and the Sturm Model Fibel 1 book, but most of the interior photos in both are of the initial version which I believe had the same radio set up as the Sturmgeschutz, with two antennae and sets on both sides of the superstructure.
In PzTracts is a small photo of the interior of an appropriate vehicle but I can't see any sign of a radio set.
I think a stowed MG is visible but that wouldn't leave room for a radio set behind it I think:
So was the set just on the left side? That would mean a lot going on over there, with the driver, gunner and commander already on that side. It would make more sense (to me at least) to have the radio on the right hand side.
Also it looks like the trunking for the old extractors has been removed. I don't know whether the holes in the rear superstructure would have been filled or plated over, given there were armoured cowls covering them.
I've serached online and can't find any photos of the interior of any of the later vehicles. If anyone can provide links, or suggestions of books which contain photos,, or any thoughts, advice or whatever, I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Sean
