Looks nice so far. Just please do not overdo the weathering... period images show no paint chipping (neither for most of WWII vehicles but that's another story )

Don't worry, I am not a huge fan of weathering.
It looks very clear on the pictures due to the artificial light.
After washes and filters, the colour will be darker.

Nice! I have that very subject / Takom kit on my table right in front of me right now! So I am very interested in seeing your project develop!
PS: I am "with" Carlos all the way; WATCH that "weathering"! Dirt, however, is another thing altogether! THAT is a "way of life" for military vehicles! Stains and dirt and fading paint are realities that merit depiction in armor models!

I spent 2 years in Chad and most of the military vehicles and AFV I saw there where often covered with red dust when used on laterite roads or with a more yellowish dust when used in saharian or sub-saharian environment.

I started to paint the mortar and the 2 machine guns dark grey, as well as the rain flaps at the lower part of the mudguards. Tires are painted dark grey too.

Getting close to the end for this AML...
Varnish layer to finish fixing the decals, work on the tools with several shades of brown for the handles. The iron of the shovel, the pickaxe and the ax are worked with dark gray, light gray and black wash. I also put some brown-red on the tools.
Same for the two coaxial machine guns, without the rust color. The barrel of the mortar is very lightly drybrushed with light gray.
The exhaust is painted in dark brown, then drybrushed rust-brown and dark gray.
I also painted some scratches in dark gray on the decals.

End of assembly and painting: headlamps, headlights, mirrors.
On some photos, I noticed that the mirror supports were almost white. I choosed to paint them that color. For the searchlights and front lights, I painted the interior in Humbrol 11 (silver) and I placed a tip of yellow MIG at the bottom to represent the bulb. The transparent parts are fixed with a specific product whose name I don't remember ...
Some "African earth" MIG pigment fixed in some places with pigment fixative of the same brand.
I call it done ! Now is time for a small and easy base...

Hi
The markings don't belong to the Spanish legion but to the GLC VIII (8th cavalry group) and I'm afraid that they're not even right for this group, the markings were made based on an exhibition restored vehicle that show different markings than the ones used when the vehicle was in service.
I'm sorry to tell you this late, I haven't seen the post before.

Hola Federico !
Thank you for the information. If I understand well, Takom did wrong on the markings... Has the GLC VIII (8th cavalry group)been deployed in Sahara ?

Hi,
No, the only groups deployed in the Sahara were the Legion ones. You can see the right markings and painting schemes here.

The pictures of the 8th cavalry group AMLs are scarce and this exhibition model ones are the easier to find if you search in the net. Some older info found in some books and the aid of some expert friends were essential to make the right ones. Anyway your model looks really nice as you have finished it so even if it wasn't used in the Sahara you still have a beautiful piece in your collection.

Thank you for those valuable informations.
I started the base for my AML, setting the scene in the Tabernas desert, in Spain !!!
I used JTT wheat bush, Diopark cactus, and a lizard from the Dragon 6063 box:
