What about a VISMOD 92N2E radar station truck (part of the S-300 SAM missile battery) ?

I cannot imagine a situation where there would be a need for a VISMOD of a Russian wide area denial radar system vehicle. Aggression against such a vehicle would normally be in the form of a radar homing missile. The target would never be in a position to be seen line of sight.

Hi Mike

To say the truth, I wonder about this beast as well Maybe it is rather a movie prop ?

The russian webpage it comes from is the only place I've found it (no info there)....

I have to assume this was a captured HEMTT that the Russians put to use as a VISMOD subject. However I still cannot imagine why they would have gone to the trouble. Perhaps it was to be used as an actual combat decoy?

That lowboy trailer looks to be 'Made in the U.S.'
Jet Co trailers ???

As you say, why go to the trouble of building a copy of something they already have the real thing of.

The USAF routinely builds/operates vehicles like this for ISR (Intel, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) pilots to actually see a target so they know what it looks like in their actual targeting and intel pods as opposed to just on film.

But, but, but . . . . .

if a human pilot gets close enough to see the real thing visually, they're dead already.

I could certainly be out of line on this one but . . . .

IMHO, it is a miracle that current day US military vehicle technicians learn ANYTHING from the TM manuals provided. (OK, one correction - OSHKOSH Tech Manuals.)

To start off with the TM's seem to almost never provide any kind of general overview image of the object about to be covered. Instead they repeat the SAME identical illustration image over and over and over again page after page. Then every section is divided/punctuated with an unbelievable number of blank wasted pages and almost every page or sub-section that carries any informative info repeats the SAME warning symbols and caution statements an untold number of times throughout the document.

Again, IMHO I say that all those many line drawings are more expensive and contain less information per square inch than would a few simple black and white photos. The only reason the line drawings could possibly be cheaper is because the author uses the same drawings again and again and again 500 times throughout the document.

As an example; I have come to absolutely hate the drawing they continuously use of the HEMTT driver's station. And I would have to ask how many times must I be told that the steering wheel has been deleted for clarity?

Many of the TM's provided in World War II were true illustrated teaching documents and again IMHO had it all over today's nearly useless technical publications coming from the BIG O.

I'll get off my soapbox now.
