I am planning to build a model of the Israeli M113 Fitter. Having found various images of the vehicle, I am not sure how exactly the crane would be operated ... from inside the vehicle, or via controls on the outside. I note that when builders merchants deliver heavy loads of bricks/cement/breeze blocks, they operate the HIAB crane from either a remote unit or a panel on the side of the lorry.
I suppose the same question applies to the US LAV(R), which is also equipped with the HIAB crane system.
Any thoughts? ...

The Crane controls are located just to the rear of the Driver in a panel with four levers angled at about 30 deg from the hull side. The Driver usually operates the crane from his seat (kneeling or standing facing rearwards (Can't vouch for the Israeli's but that is how the Aussies and Kiwis did it). The kit does not include the control panel neither does any of the aftermarket conversions. I found this indistinct picture of a model of one on an IDF facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=164169110847790&set=g.372834736505653&type=1&theater&ifg=1

I took literally hundreds of photos of Canadian Fitters throughout the years, and can't believe this is the only half-decent photo I have of the crane control panel ...
