I was reading reading Scott Duttons topic about the possibility of a Russian M4A2 Sherman mounting a Dshk machine gun a while back, and it gave me the idea for this thread. My thread about Tanks with alternative turrets and guns, was a lot of fun for me (and hopefully others as well), you guys really came up with some great photos and ideas, so hopefully this will work out just as well.
I'll start with the British PLA mount in WW II...

That first Marine M48 just has a standard tripod put crossways on the turret.
Similar improvised 30 cal. Mounts were also on Sheridans.

I don't know whether re-equipped captured hardware counts, but in case it does, here you go:
7.62 mm FN MAG mounted on IDF PT-76s
Well, not tanks, but still...
0.50 cal and FN MAG on IDF BTR-50/OT-62s
Frankly, just about any British/French/US/USSR made equipment in IDF service can tick the box...

Here is one of my favorites in this category:
If you look closely at the minigun, it looks like the mount is some sort of roadwheel arm welded to the top of the turret, does anyone recognize the arm and what vehicle it is from?
...and what purpose did the .50 on the rear deck serve, unless they were on top of a hill, maybe on guard duty?:

To me it rather looks like a M113 ACAV M60 mount :

It looks like you might have found the answer Frenchy, that does look right, thank you!
Here is a photo I found of what was labled as an IS T-55 with a coaxial KVPT (it looks like they may have mounted it in place of the searchlight, but its hard to tell) and a Dshk:
I wish I could find a better photo of that one, I tried, but with no luck.

And using a 14.5mm in the antipersonnel role is just so much overkill as to be silly.

I doubt very much they would waste any KVPT rounds on personnel, unless it was to chew through a wall to dig out a sniper maybe...

Perimeter security. Tanks couldn't always park in a coil so if parked alone to defend the perimeter a spare 50 beats the he'll out of any alternative.
And a 50 caliber is over kill on personnel. Slices people to ribbons but it has great penetration for walls and such.
And sometimes "overkill" helps one sleep better.

Maybe some "psychology" on the opponent side could come into this as well. Some soldiers react with a loss of morale or will to fight when they see their buddy sliced up by a heavy weapon. In some cases it works the opposite way.
Risking getting shot with something that the doctors might be able to patch up is one thing, seeing your buddy getting shot to pieces is another. It can have a sobering effect on even fanatic fighters.
The presence of a .50 on the enemy side would certainly make me cautious ....

I kind of figured some sort of security duty might be the case.
...and not just overkill, but if I remember correctly, it's against the Geneva convention LOL, and before people pile on that statement, we were instructed VERY specifically, in training, that we were NOT to fire the .50 at troops, we were to fire at their EQUIPMENT, such as weapons, helmets, canteens, belt buckles etc... I have no idea if the Geneva convention statement is true or not, but they were very specific, and I remember it well because it was so ridiculous.
