NOTE TO SELF: Start taking notes!! I know the regs for RAL7028 base and olive / brown camo hit in Fed 43. I seem to remember that RAL7028 came into use , in place of RAL7021 as the factory color prior to that. Am I loosing my mind , or what? Also, anybody happen to have 1/35 pre 43 MP Kompanie tactical markings?

O.K. I managed to find the reference on the 7028. Oct. 42 it officially replaced the "panzer grey". How long would it have taken for its use to trickle to the front lines? Well, rear echelon? I'm playing around with a "captured" BA-20 and an debating on the color. (7028 over the original 4BO??)

Cite that reference. Dunkelgelb nach Muster was added to the RAL register in February 1943. It was used until superseded by Dunkelgelb RAL 7028 in April 1943.

Info was on the Sturmgeschutz Vor site. Listed the 7028 coming in in 42 and the reg for the olive / brown being added in Feb 43. "Dark Yellow: October 1942 – Dunkelgelb (RAL 7028) was a dark yellow color originally developed as paint for agricultural vehicles and equipment. After October of 1942 it became a standard military color. This color continued in use through out the war as a vehicle base coat and disruptive color pattern over olive green and red-brown primers. Three Color Disruptive: February 1943 – Vehicles were painted with a base coat of dark yellow (Dunkelgelb). Over this, stripes of olive-green (Olivgrün RAL 6003) and red-brown (Rotbraun RAL 8017) were applied by the maintenance sections and could be varried according to the terrain."

Well, the Stug Vor site is the only one claiming this, as all the other sites covering this subject are going with the February 1943 date as the introduction of Dunkelgelb. In fact, images of the color sample cards issued are stamped with the '43 date, and the foremost expert on German colors of the time period--who has had access to the original documentation--also confirms 1943.

I am far more willing to trust historical sites and the words of experts over a gaming site any day of the week.
