I'm building a replica of a part of the grandstands from Le Mans in the 1970's. I bought some cheapo flags on toothpicks but because of the material they are made of they are just too stiff to "hang" properly. What material is best & what is the best way to get flags to "hang" realistically w/folds & so on?

I notice you need flags of many nations, maybe some are not available as decals. Here are a couple of suggestions:
What material are the ones you've got made of? If paper, you could soak them in water/white glue solution until soft and floppy and shape them until they harden/dry.
You could scan and re-print them on thinner paper and use the same treatment, if necessary.

Hey Randy,
The best producer of buildings and your stuck on flags?
Use some tin foil and make sure you only glue the back of the print.Glue to each side and let dry.Cut close around it and after you can shape it however you like.

A sneak peak at my next (massive) kit. This isn't for lighthearted modelers. : ) This will also include sidewalks and will be 30" long. Super Diorama possibilities!

Keep in mind thats a 48 star flag , for 1970 youd need a 50 star flage , I dont know if Archer has them

Thank you Lou. The "diorama" is about 6' x 12'. If someone walks in & notices that of all of the details on the layout that 2 stars are missing from the American flag I'll buy them a cigar. : )

Looks great Randy,
Wish I still had room for a 30" ,my house is full of dios and I've taken some to work.
What's nice is it looks like you've made it in sections.In that case guys like me can get 3 dios out of it or for those with room a large one would be excellent.No need to find 3 buildings that go together.Depending on cost I'll be in for one.

I printed the flag on decal paper ,and glued it on tin foil with wood glue.

You dont have to count them . its the arraignment of the stars.First thing I noticed , and Im not a rivet counter ? . But dont go by me Im not a racing fan ,just a history nut .

I would go with a proper 50-star flag. To me the difference in the blue field with the star pattern is very noticable.

To make one is very easy. All you need to do is find an image of it and save it to PowerPoint or another graphics program. Resize and print onto decal paper. Apply the decal to foil and you are good. You can bend them however you want to make them blowing in the wind, etc.

To all that took the time to reply, thanks, I appreciate it. The aluminum foil trick is exactly what I needed. That being said, I find the whole side diversion about 48 vs 50 stars pretty funny. This is not the size of most military dioramas. It is 6' x 12'. There will be dozens of international flags used on it in by the time I get it fully detailed. Most will be in a hanging down/no wind type of display, which means you won't even really be able to "read" most of them. Now throw in 1/32 Scale slot cars whizzing around the track at 200 scale MPH & hundreds of other details (stocked pit stalls/detailed luxury suites/tools/fueling rigs/hundreds of spectators/a camping area etc) and I'm telling you, if 10,000 people walk into the room to see the layout I would be shocked if even one noticed that one of the flags had 2 stars too many or too few.

PVA glue (Elmer's School Glue) works just fine.
