For the past 2 decades I have always used Xuron Sprue cutters. One day I decided to order some Tamiya sharp pointed ones which I always thought were ridiculously priced (28$). Best cutters I have ever used and worth the 28$. Thing is that they got dull real fast...like really fast. I am so disappointed with them which leads me to my question...Has anyone ever tried God Hand cutters which from what I read are the best except they cost about 50. I would be willing to pay that if they stay sharp and consistant. Any thoughts on them? Or any recommendations on sprue cutters that perform like the Tamiya ones but won't go dull after one model although my dull tamiyas are still however much better than any of the Xuron cutters.

Used Xuron cutters for years but have now owned a set of God Hand cutters for about a year.

Xuron are good but the God Hand cutters are on a different level.

I keep my Xuron cutters for 'rough work' and use the GH cutters for precise cutting.

They cut diamond or something ?

I paid 5 bucks for the pair I'm using now for 3 years .
Cut brass wire along with plastic and still nice and sharp .
No brand name . Bought em at local art supply .

For 50 bucks they should come with cup holders at least . Maybe MP3 player and comfy chair too

Really cheap. I can have them lying around so there is always one available.

on one of them the text printed on the handle had slipped ...
They work just fine as long as I don't use them for cutting metal wire. For the price of one GH nipper you can get 20 to 25 of these so the question is if the GH nipper will last 20 times as long ...
I don't need super precise cuts that look as if they had been cut with a diamond saw and polished afterwards. The styrene is often inconsistent anyway so I prefer to take the last half millimetre of the sprue attachment with a fine needle file anyway ...

Those blue ones were praised in another thread, on this forum as I recall. On the basis of that recommendation I bought 2 pairs from China on eBay for well under $10. I've never had Xuron or Tamiya to compare to, but these are the best sprue cutters I've ever had bar none. Still sharp enough to cut myself with! I use them on etched brass too, but I prefer scissor-action cutters for the frets.

I use my Zuron for cutting resin and stuff. My Tamiya cutters have stayed sharp for years but I only use them on styrene.

I have several different sets of God hand cutters. The ultimate edition have one normal sized blade and the other is incredibly sharp. Both my Takom grant and my Meng panther required me to shave bolts off of the sprue. Normally I would use a razor blade or knife but the God Hands sliced them off better than any other tool ever could. And the bolts was left laying on the blade and easily transferred to the kit.

Has anyone seen the new cutters on Meng's website? thin blades to make parallel cuts and eliminate nubs

I received from my wife as 2016 Christmas present, the Citadel Sprue Cutter. I've been using it for a year now to cut parts from sprues and have been satisfied with it. For detail cutting, I use the UMM GMT03 Flat Head 03 cutter. I highly recommend this.

I've never heard of God Hand. Looks great but is also expensive.

Awhile back picked up a pair of Squadron brand cutters. No complaints. I like the narrow tip and so far it is holding a sharp edge. I do admit I only use them on plastic and just for cutting parts from sprue.

Look nice , but I'm in Robin's camp ; I use mine to rough cut parts from the sprue and do the final clean-up with a blade .

Well I know modellers love overpaying for cheap tools because they have a logo on lol. Channel Lock Mini Champs are the only tools you will ever need. Guaranteed for life. You can use it. When you die your son can use it, and his son and his son and so on. Not so much for fancy made in China "boutique" hobby cutters. About $25 and even cheaper in a set. Side cutters, snips, pliers, etc. Lots of choices. They rule. No argument - no question.

I use CHP-170 Flush cut wire-cutters. Never had a issue and the one I have now I've been using for about 5 years. Still sharp.

Best part is, they're $4.25 on amazon.

If I recall while God Hand are sharp they are brittle also. They are intend more for clean up then removing parts from spur.

I've used Tamiya cutters for years and decided to give a try to a Xuron one lately. This one now stays in my drawer, it is jusst good enough to cut large portions of sprue.
I never encountered the issue mentioned by Michael in the original post, at least not as quickly as he states it.

To each is own but I'd never put 50 euros/dollars in such a simple tool.

"God Hand" is quite an amusing brandname!

Right. I don't care how good it is, it's not a finishing tool. You will always have to do further work to clean up the attachment. The difference between the best imaginable cutter (requiring x amount of finish effort) and a merely serviceable one (requiring 2x, 3x, or even 10x amount of finish effort) does not warrant the additional expense.

To put it another way, if you are doing fine woodworking and joinery, it doesn't pay to spend $2,000 on the chainsaw that cuts your trees when one that costs $200 works just as well during the four hours a year you use it.

"Interesting" that one of the images for "Xuron" cutter actually shows one of the really cheap Plato cutters (which in my opinion are excellent value for money, in this case I think I got more value than I paid for).

I used some cheap red handle ones from Hobby Lobby when I started again Sept. of 2016. i think they were around $7.00. Then Xmas of 2016 my wife got me Tamiya ones. They were at least $39.00 at the LB. Loved them. However using them while cutting wheels off the sprue of a Academy M1 less than 3 months later, They broke. The whole tip sheared completely off. The whole triangle tip. I NEVER used them for any cutting more than a 1/16th thickand nothing other than plastic. I got another set for xmas 2017. But will only use them for really small items.

The Hobby Lobby ones get used about 95% of times.

I saw another set earlier today - wish I'd saved the link. Looked like Xuron, box, font etc, but were called Xupcn or something similar!

I don't spend big money on cutters anymore, I have 3-4 Xuron cutters, I found an excellent cutter from crecent wrench at Home Depot, comes in a combo pack that includes 4" pies which works absolutely wonderful when working with small brass wire or PE, and for 14 bucks you can beat it. I've had them for over a year and they're still as sharp as the day i bought em...and I cut a ton of plastic.

Is there any brand of cutter which can easily be taken apart and reassembled? I have a Veritas sharpening rig for chisels, plane blades etc. that can put a scary-sharp razor edge on anything, so I bet it would do the same to these cutter blades.
