Hi all, I've encountered unexpected problem with using the crystal green from tamiya and armoured glass from alclad - if airbrushed the layer becomes greasy and completely no-transparent. I tried as delicate as I could with the airbrushing however cannot get rid of that effect. Should the paint be mixed with some special ingredient? Even tamiya thinner didn't help. And I have not found any info on issues with covering glass with that kind of products. I would appreciate help if you know how to deal with it.

alclad a lacquer and tamiya is acrylic it may be a compatability issue
I used Alclad's clear teal armored glass and brush painted it on and it fogged up the clear parts and in one case it cracked it
a fellow modeler on here suggested using pledge's futre actrylic clear with a few drops of teal food coloring

Thanks for a hint.
How is it possible that in other descriptions of using those two paints no such greasy and foggy effect occurs?

I use Tamiya clear green with no issue providing that you spray very little paint at a time. Don't try to cover the glass in a single application.
I use the brand thinner and spray on the inner face of the glass.

I have an original viewing block from a Tiger 1 and while the glass does definitely have a very light green tint when looked at up close, it is extremely pale and from any distance greater than 1ft it appears clear and colourless.

Taking into account scale effect anything other than the very lightest of coats of clear teal/ green would in my opinion be an overkill.

Just a thought that might make your life easier

Mike,
You're certainly right about WWII and postwar vehicles. However if you look at modern MRAP for instance, you can clearly notice the greenish glass.

Hi bison126- my apologies, I didn't think it was a question about modern armour...assumed it was WW2!

Have a good day!

I use Alclad II Armored Glass with a brush. No issues ever. Maybe the parts weren't clean? Not really sure as I never clean my parts before painting.
