I've read that its running gear needs quite a bit of work to accuratize it

This is a case where Italeri made a better kit than Tamiya. The Tamiya kit has some questionable and clunky "details," while the old Italeri M 13/40 is a pretty nice little kit with a little TLC.

I agree with the others saying that the Italeri (now the moulds have benn handed over to Zvezda which still manufactures it) is better than the Tamiya kit.
Anyway if you really want to represent an M13/40 the Tamiya is actually an M13/40 and the Italeri/Zvezda is an M14/41. There's no huge difference between an M13/40 and an M14/41 but if you go for the Italeri/Zvezda you have to make some "backdating" work or build it as is, it means an M14/41. Both of them have seen extensive use in North Africa.

I'm working on The Tamiya kit. I got it in a lot of kits I purchased. I agree that it is a little heavy handed in the detail department, but I own it, I just wanted to build it. The only thing I noticed that really needed replacing were the tracks. They are typical eary Tamiya vinyl tracks, smooth on one side with just a token center guide. I did end up getting the Model Victoria resin tracks for Italian "M" tanks. I think they were $20.

I'd like to see it finished Rob. If it's not so bad..may be i build it also.
Or may be a "semovente" (if it's not horrible than this one, off course).
