The MiniArt kits are awesome. I just recieved the T-55 Model 1963 w/full interior for a build review for Armorama. I plan on getting it started soon.

So the quality & fit are in line with the Tamiya T-55.... which took me only a few hours to build

Looking at the photo etch on the T-54 turret... does it come with just the etch for some areas or both etch and plastic IE: the piece around the manlet is brass, is that the only option or does it come with a plastic piece to go around the manlet also

No, there are no plastic parts as optional instead of the PE. You are only given the PE parts. I don't know how it goes together yet. It looks to be well engineered though.

The level of detail is awesome. They also do non-interior versions of their kits too.

I cannot answer for the Tamiya kit, but this video is a really good discussion about the MiniArt kit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AIE5IwmMbY&t=366s

I grabbed a T54-2 kit, with full interior, and was blown away by the quality of the kit. Picked up a few more of their kits because they are so nice and right now am comparing the ICM L 1500 S LLG to the MiniArt L 1500 S. The ICM kit is very nice, but the MiniArt kit is head and shoulders better, and when MiniArt releases their Firetruck I will grab it.

My best advice I have is just stay FAR AWAY from the Trumpeter T-54/55,Type 59/69.These are very early attempts to produce these tanks and will always remind me of a fancy toy.

The MiniArt kit will have much, much more detail and many, many more parts. It will not be as easy of a build as the Tamiya kit, but the detail will be even better.

Silly question...

Is the top cut out of the turret factory? or did they do it to just illustrate the detail of the gun carriage?

Just thinking that it would be one heck of a seam to fill.

The top piece is a separate, yet welded part on the actual tank. It does not come off in reality.

The trumpeter's kits are old kits full of error. They are crude kits.
The Tamiya one is easy to build and is good looking T55. But there're some dimentionnals errors (the turret is too small and the russian engine deck is inaccurate). The wheels are for early T55 (the first wheels should have reinforced hub for a T55A.... If you're in for model accuracy, the Tamiya kit isn't the best option.
The Takom serie is far more accurate with great detailling but it has a few problems' specially with the way they did their wheels in several parts anf the poor lights protection.
TAKOM is the choice for T55AM and AMV or for Cz build version (their T55A kit has the option for Cz engine deck).

Miniart T55 serie seems to be the best of the market but at this time only for russian build T55.

Quite possibly the best 1/35 model kit I've ever worked on. But it's very complex. It's not a 2-night build, that's for sure. Even without the interior.

Think of the Tamiya kit as a Fiat and the MiniArt as a Ferrari. The Tamiya kit is a fun quick build, while the MiniArt kit is more complex and offers a much greater level of detail.

Takom is in between and would make a better choice if you want more options than Tamiya, but prefer a less complex build.

Tamiya's T-55 from 2002 at the time was the best one out there, and most state of that art, but MiniArts very recent releases of their T-54/55 are far and away THE best

I found a pic of a Syrian T-54 1949, then I lost it and can not find it at all

I just bought the Miniart 1/35 T-54-2 Mod. 1949 #37012 so I could build the Syrian version

Used the same search info, but no pic

Tamiya's kit suffers because it was most likely measured from a T-54B or Type-69 then they added some but not all T-55 features. It would have made a much better T-54B. It builds fine it just suffers from some accuracy issues. It was fine in 2002 or whenever it came out but now in the internet age it starts to show its deficiencies.

This one? Only pic I've ever seen of a Syrian T-54 mod 49. Note it has the later "Starfish" type wheels than what the Miniart kit has. Miniart's kits are pretty much straight-from-the-factory versions.

Mini Art has the correct roadwheels for this vehicle as separate set.

I feel your pain, first time I have had three shipments from Europe get all messed up. The weird thing was one of the shipments, something I purchased from the same retailer, about a week after the first purchase, showed up before other product bought earlier.
