The tracks will be replaced, and maybe that rear grill, and some sanding of the cast texture, as looks way to rough.
Might put Mr. Surfacer on it and smooth it , will see.

Well starting another one,the Academy T34/76 Version.

You're right about the texture. Specifically, know that the front of the turret, as well as the top, was machined flat. There pretty much shouldn't be any texture there.

Anyway to verify that the turret casting should not be that rough? The tank was built at factory 183 and it is a known fact that castings were different at each tank factory that was building the T-34. You may end up with a tank looking like it came from a different factory. The Russians were putting those tanks together as quick as they could and they did not have the same quality of build as the post war vehicles.

It's just a helpful shorthand to avoid confusion.
T34 would be the American prototype heavy tank which is of interest to some and T-34 is the ubiquitous Soviet tank of the Great Patriotic War which is of interest to others.

Well, yes. There are hundreds of photos of hex turrets on line and though you will see significant differences in the smoothness of these cast turrets none will look anything like what is provided in the kit.
It's also not quite a fact that each factory had identifiably different castings (unless you're willing to get into extreme minutia and often not even then).
Remember that UZTM and UTZ provided a large number of turrets to Factory 174 and ChKZ, and even Factory 112. When these factories were producing their own turrets they were using blueprints and technologies that were for the most part standardized. Variations did happen but generally a "hard edge" turret looked pretty much the same whether it came from UTZ or UZTM. The same, again for the most part, can be said of "soft edge" turrets. Though there were visible differences between those cast in sand moulds and those produced using permanent cavity moulds.
For a "hard edge" turret as provided in the kit you'd be hard pressed to tell on factory from another.

Not a huge deal but T-34 is the proper nomenclature. I mean, you wouldn't go around calling an M4 Sherman and M-4, would you?

T-34 is also the nomenclature for the Beechcraft Mentor trainer. So if this appeared in the general forum that's further confusion.
Imagine seeing Sherman build as a topic , go there and it's a resin figure of the general. Gotta be specific.

Cast wheels should have 12, not 10 holes/indentations in the disc.
"Normal" dished type wheels should have nuts, not bolt heads on their outermost side.
The so-called half spider wheels have 6 holes around hub oversized.
The drive wheel in the kit is of a wrong type too...

Well it is going to be built with what is in the box,I already have tracks coming from that fine company Miniart.
Thanks for pointing that out though Paul.
And Mark oops on the T-34 deal.
I have looked and have not seen anywhere so rough a cast as what is in the kit, but as Andy built a few after paint might be alright, a few ways to fix it I have Mr. Surfacer in 500, 1000 and 1200, so a coat could be applied, also have the can version 1200.
Will see, Andy's on Youtube looks okay.

Well started it. The hull not glued,just on to check fit of the rear and front parts.Don't want no surprises down the road
Actually have not compared it to any Dragon or Tamiya kits I have, I have built a bunch of Tamiya T-34's and even have the 1/25 scale one still in it's box.It sure as heck looked like a T-34 when I built my first one in 1974.

Unfortunately, the cast wheels are wrong in terms of the number of the holes. DEF Model have this issue in their upgrade set fixed:

Steve and smaller then the Tamiya kit, as I tried to use one of my zoom Eduard rear screen deals, then to have to put together 7 pieces to make up the rear screen deal, but Tamiya is bigger.
Might look if they do a Zoom for this kit. Sorry Paul but what they made ,I do have some T-34's in the stash , but not going to steal wheels from them. Not really liking some parts, but it is not to bad a kit.

The Tamiya T-34 is overscale among other problems. It does go back to the 1970s as a motorized kit so the proportions are off to fit batteries and motor.
The cheapo Lee copy of the Tamiya model actually has an open rear grill with screen and vents. I had been hoping to update to the Academy but not now. And Dragon kits are hard to find and expensive. In The T-34/76 I have the instructions call for pieces that aren't in the box and the configuration is off as it's one of Dragon's lesser T-34 efforts. And it's one where the photoetch doesn't fit the grille.

Well the grill put together, all 9 pieces not including the base piece, so 10 pieces, did they not look at Eduard making it for them.

With all of the different manufacturers having slightly different ideas about the size of the transmission cooling intake, getting AM PE to fit isn't always the friendliest option. Most that incorporate the frame with the mesh are too two dimensional anyway.
I like to make each one to fit using leftover strips when possible, Evergreen strip with added bolt detail, and wedding tulle.
It helps the old Zvezda kits:

You have got to do something with that stucco texture on the driver's hatch. There's cast texture and then there's stucco wall based on a paint chipped rusting hulk.

Still have not painted the upper hull, but actually I have seen one pretty rough. LOL
