I'm in the process of building this bell tower and I'm confused as to where the fourth column is , it should be where the cameraman that took this photo is ?
Structurally and architecturally weird , I'm missing something here . Only thing I can think of is that there is more columns to the right and left not in the photo . That though would make this one heck of a large belfry area .
Is it even a bell tower at all ?
Whatever it is it has some altitude according to the background bridge .
I'm trying to make this a sniper/observation position .

Here's the caption I've found for this picture : "Belfry of the Pskov church, 1941"

Could it be the belltower of the Trinity Cathedral in Pskov ?

For my money this has to be it .
However the photo surely has to be of the first level of double arches on each side .
If you look at my pic , if there where just four supporting arches then the fourth arch should actually be where the photographer is standing or even where the wood railing is .
The distances between the arches in the photo suggest this .
Like I surmised there has to be other structure arches to the left and right in my photo .
Your brilliant detective work bears this out , thank you my friend .
However I'm going to have to use this pic as a guideline and not build the actual scene because I want to build a belfry with a roof above the pic I have and some structure beneath . Trying to build both levels would be to much and hide the visuals of the sniper/observation post . I'm thinking I can expand the belfry area with damage to better expose the interior .
Thanks once again you've been very helpful in sorting this out for me .

Indeed In the picture you've posted, we can notice the square holes for the missing railing beams.

And you can see also on the original photo that there is light coming behind the soldier on the right, parallel to the light in front of him so there must be another opening not seen.

Good eye Carlos , yes now I notice the sunlight coming through the second arch on the right .
I saved this pic a long while ago and can't remember from either Axis History or Histo-mil , the caption read France which turned out to be false , so thanks to Frenchy and you , mystery solved .

Now on to a belfry build !

I've just done an image search using Google and found it here :

Then I've translated the caption (thanks to Google again) and searched for more Pskov churches pics that would fit the bill....et voilà

Thanks Frenchy, although I tried it on Cheyenne’s new quiz with no success. Some comical coastal defence here – no emplacements or barbed wire etc, civilians promenading…reminds me of Malibu or some other Californian beach

Tim , when I originally found this pic it was captioned Cal. coast after Pearl Harbor .
A few years later I actually saw this original photo along with others hanging on a wall in a local VFW of Atlantic City N.J. during the war .

That was Seaside Heights N.J. , a bit of a s-hole . That was about 2 hrs north of Atlantic City .
I ran all the phone lines for that project when they had their setup on the boardwalk .
Did Splicing , repair and installation from Point Pleasant Beach on the Manasquan Inlet all the way down to and including Island Beach State Park .
Pretty cool phone company career on the beach just about every day .

Winters too cold .
Summers too hot .
Most of the people were jerks .

Glad I retired ooooooh the stories I could tell .

I feel your pain brother. Sorry for the flashback!
BTW. My dad worked for one the Bell System back in the 70's. I loved riding in the van with him. He maintained the HVAC systems in the telephone switching rooms.
