Blazey, if you look closely at the above photos there are a few of vehicles that have far less distance from the trailing edge of the door to the rear wheel arch. I don't know a thing about the VBL but the difference suggests these are photos of two different length vehicles.

Regards,

Eric

On the last picture first VBL belongs to Greek army, second to French army.

I've noticed that all photos of short base VBL's show mount for Milan. I wonder if that's the only version of short based VBL that Greek army poses, and all the other are long wheeled vehicles?

You're right I should have paid more attention to the one in the background....I'm quite sure it's SWB model )

According to this article ;

http://www.ellinikos-stratos.com/stratos/vbl.asp

it seems that all the SWB models are fitted with a MILAN launcher...

The first 13 vehicles the Hellenic Army received were SWB and are the only ones fitted with the MILAN launcher. They were sent to Kosovo as soon as their crews finished training.

The rest of the vehicles are all with the LWB and their equipmnet varies.

Slingshot models makes some Hellenic Army VBL equipment sets.

-Sagged wheels set
-Stowage packs (especially for the Hobby Boss kits, since they are not included in the box)
-Greek Army conversion set

They can be used on all the available kits, from both Tiger Models and Hobby Boss.

I bought their set short while ago, as well as decals made by LMDecals

The major problem is a lack of LWB version of VBL on the market...

Thanks for your help Guys

Something kinda interesting in this photo, the .50 cal ammo box is the American WW2 pattern not a more modern type. Repainted the new green, but definitely the old pattern box.

I believe this kind of box īs still widely used in the French Army (why changing a successful design ? )

Well. That's pretty interesting.

I'm going to imagine that the Yanks changed them to the newer design in the 50s-60s for some reason, even if it was only that they were cheaper to make.

Unless the French are actually making copies of the American can designs, these will have been in service for 75 years. I wouldn't have imagined that many would survive that long.

I'm quite sure that's what they've done. I have a new-looking one of these in my garage

Yeah, I finally got a chance to look at the web sites posted (blocked by firewall at work) and I could see differences, such as no handles on the ends and the lack of the embossed lettering and symbols on the various surfaces of the cans.

Interesting, had not seen those before.

Thanks for the head's up.
