This is Model Collect's 1/72 12.8 cm FlaK 40. Another nice model. Pretty large, even in 1/72!
I added new platforms from Evergreen strip and brass mesh for a better appearance, and added a couple of aircraft gauge decals on the range computer. And a bit of solder wire for the cabling.

Absolutely fabulous and now all you need is a flak-tower to put in on. I can see this taking more than a few prizes at the Montreal, let alone other model shows. Very nice work and you've been busy?
Cheers,

Thanks. I've been building over the last few months, but I contracted a ransome-ware virus and lost all my files in renewing my computer (definitely need an external back-up), then got the Photo Bucket screw, so have to re-photo models and download to Imgur. So far Imgur seems to work better than PB did!

Hi, just saw a listing for a Model collect Flak Tower kit on eBay in Germany, modeled after Flak Tower IV in Hamburg.

Now you just need to build 4 of these plus the smaller flak guns to fill out the tower

Probably be a lot cheaper to scratch-build the tower from foam board. Just the FlaK 40's and flakvierlings alone, will be a small fortune.

The listing was for 40 euro around 48-50 US, I sure it will show up on ebay here soon enough.
The one question is how detailed the top of the tower is, i.e. armored doors for the ammo lifts, ammo storage pits etc

Can you provide a link for that ebay item? I checked ModelCollect's site and they make no mention of it, although they do have the Ratte in 1/72.

Go on to ebay.de and search for flakturm IV hamburg, that should bring it right up.
If you think building a full set up in 72 scale is spendy image doing it in 35th with the 4 takom flak zwilling kits and the appropriate quad 20 cm or twin 3.7 cm flak guns

Just looked at it again and read it more carefully, the kit is only one corner of the tower, four sets will build the entire tower for 4 of these guns.

The other thing to keep in mind is even in this scale a complete tower will still measure over 1 meter in width and over 50 cm in height. Not exactly something to display on the shelf with one's other tanks and guns. This builds up into a focal piece in any room

You commented on the news item about it last year...
Flaktower
Good work on the flak, nice touch with the decals.

Hmmm...no one commented on the obviously sloppy job on the undersides of the areas outboard of the guns themselves:
I can only say in my defense that I didn't pay those areas so much attention because I figured that since they were on the undersides, they would be invisible. But then I went and posed the guns at high elevation making those areas VERY visible!

Leo,
Who's to say these seams weren't meant to be seen as they were a separate item of the shell loader/rammer? I'm sure the majority of viewers aren't that familiar with a FlaK 40's composition.
Cheers,
Jan
