Upon reading about the Vietnam War, I realized that truck convoy ambushes were a common tactic by the NVA. Presumably the same thing happened in Afghanistan to the Soviet forces, so how did that go about? Roadblocks, hijackings, mines, etc.? Of course two different terrains, so perhaps different tactics.

Somewhere I have some photos of a sign on Jalalabad road many miles east of Kabul, that shows a mural of such an ambush, with a description of the events in Dari. In a narrow pass, they would simultaneously destroy the first and last vehicles in the convoy, and then pick off the rest at their leisure. Next to the sign is a thoroughly burnt out BTR on its side, with an ad for some sort of motor oil painted on the hull. Someday I want to replicate this.
