Hi I am a first time modeler, and i have just started my second kit, the Tamiya "Panzer Kampfwagen II Ausf. F/G" I am building the "G" model and sticking with the Afrika Korps theme, i was wondering what the best way or best colors to use to paint Desert Camo or weathering onto the Panzer II, thanks. :-)

Hi Zepeleptic :-)
First off - welcome to the site... I'm glad you took the time to ask your question :-) This place is full of helpful people looking for excuses to try and give somebody a hand...
On to your question... For Afrika Corps vehicles - I do the following..
1. Prime the model in flat black..
2. Then I paint the kit with Model Master Tan or Tamiya Desert Yellow - depending on the look I want. This PzKpfw III L was brush painted with Model Master Tan - over the black primer.. I didn't have an airbrush when I built it so I just brush painted it. I thinned the paint a bit - and tried to let the black darken the color some..
This Bison II was airbrushed Tamiya Desert Yellow over the black... I again didn't try to completely hide the base black - and let it darken the color along panel lines and in recesses.
3. Once the base coat is on - I use a thin black wash (I use oil paint) and cover the whole tank.
4. Then I just dust it up with pastels a bit -
Voiala- :-)
Hope that helps a bit-
Jeff

Is this Bison the one by Alan (or some such Russian co.) Was it well detailed, ie did it come with the PE screens? Or did you have to do a lot of your own detailing, replace wheels with Tamiya, etc. What was your impression with the OOB kit?

I've built a couple of Alan panzer kits. The ones I own came with a PE muffler guard. The PzKpfw II Ausf. C is a rather nice kit. Superior to the Tamiya PzKpfw II F/G.Is this Bison the one by Alan (or some such Russian co.) Was it well detailed, ie did it come with the PE screens?
