I assume the directions may be right but I prefer to make sure. What is the story with the steel frame rails between the wooden portion of the truck bed and the chassis? Green like the bed itself, or black like the rest of the chassis. The former seems more logical but I don't want an unpleasant surprise.

Looks like wood painted green

Very little difference between the two parts

This is Zil-131 carrying an oxygen tank.

Not the same frame et.c. but the rails that belong to the oxygen tank are painted green so I wonder if there could have been some "rule" that chassis parts are black and everything built on top of the chassis is green?

Overspray anyone? Looks like the green has spread to the chassis

ARS-14 decontamination vehicle. White sub-frame on top of the black chassis.

I would guess that green is the most likely or most common but there could be a black subframe as well...

The beams above the chassis channels are usually wood not steel. They act as a cushion between the the load, the wooden bed, and the metal chassis. They also serve to attach the bed to the chassis. The long U-bolts that run over these wooden beams go down below the chassis to spanner straps that attach the bed to the frame.

In the reference photos most appear to be painted black like the chassis however one photo looks like the wooden "sleepers" are painted green to match the rest of the wood. I would hazard a guess that the one painted green is a replacement bed which was assembled and painted off the chassis.

This may seem like a small matter, but I do remember I had a topic about Jeep engine colors and it turned out when they came out of the factories, the engine was installed and painted olive drab (during WW2) along with the rest of the chassis.
