Hey folks. Would like to share with you progress on my Trumpeter AS-90. Entered this as a practice build in the Trumpeter Campaign section. Finished adding oil dot streaking and dust/mud splatter on the hull. Only need to do a little detail painting on the periscope and tools. I do have a question though - were the tools painted along with the camo of the vehicle OR should they be left in their original wood + steel color?
Anyhow, your comments and suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Concerning your question I would paint the tools in a different color. Rarely the tools are on the vehicle when it is painted. They often come in a basic color or unpainted. They can be repainted by the crews with a different color. So the choice is yours.
I think your green is a bit too bright for the British Green. But it could be my screen settings.

A light coloured wood handle would stick out over the camouflage and reduce the effectiveness of the camouflage.
"Hey look, there is a pick-axe handle hanging in the middle of those bushes on the other side of that field!"
When I did my military service in the Swedish army all the handles were painted a uniform green so they did not follow any camouflage pattern on the vehicles but a dark green "stick" is a lot better than a yellowish-white stick.

British AS-90, handles painted same as vehicle.
It's a bit boring with the handles and tools painted the same colour as the vehicle ....
At least one of the handles does not conform to the camouflage pattern. Tank Fest 2016 Bovington so the vehicle might not be 100% according to the standard painting?

When I was active, we painted them flat black or OD green, depending on what paint was handy. We did not store our OVM on the vehicles as some else might need them for replacements of their lost items. We used an ARTY Ammo crate with a lock to store them. The bigger items we painted, with stencils, the vehicle bumper number on the larger items.

Thanks all. Appreciate the comments. I also got info from someone who served in these SPGs that they painted their tools Nato Green and the metal parts NATO black. I might go ahead and do the same rather than use Wood + Steel combo.
@Olivier - I used NATO Green for the base color. Is that a good shade for British green? My camera and the lamp I used sorta did affect how the colors looked.

On my screen, your NATO green looks lighter than what I'm used to. This could be a question of color settings on my screen. Don't worry about my comment.
However, I don't think the British army use the NATO green. If I'm correct, they use a different color standard system (BS and not FS or RAL).

What? No chipping? Kudos to you. Nice looking model.
For mine I used Tamiya Field Gray, and to my eyes it looks spot in.

AFAIK the British Army does indeed use the NATO green. There are a number of colour photos in the Warpaint series of books by Dick Taylor showing the green to be quite a light shade (but not as light as Takom's FV432 boxart suggests).

Hey Nigel, good looking model there. A prety old kit now too.
As for the paint colour, just wait a while.. Ammo by Mig will come up with a set that includes two modulated greens and two modulated blacks along with the correct tool black and tool green.
On the back of that, there will be another set launched just after that includes all the same colours but just a little faded to depict "weather worn effects". Then there will be a special filter and wash kit, with a special colour called, "Rust streaks for AS-90" and "Rain marks for AS-90". You may also see a pigment set arrive with some great tones in it called, "Bovington exercise ground earth" and "AS-90 Mud tones".
I'll get my coat.....
