I've been wondering the same thing. I'm hoping the market is small enough that it won't be on the list of targeted goods. Most of the kits I've built recently are molded in China, be it armor, airplanes or cars. Does anyone know if we are on the list of the damned? If so, I'd start being sure that the stash is full to overflowing. Oh wait, mine is already! Let the boys fight....

The purpose of the traffif would be to protect domestic industry. Is there a large manufacturing base for models in the host country? If not, it is unlikely that kitsets will be targeted. But then again, this is about politians and not models. So anything’s goes.

I didn't see anything specific to plastic models but they might get us under 93011000 Artillery weapons (for example, guns, howitzers, and mortars)!!!

Since most of us buy direct from online hobby shops in Hong Kong and China anyway (and other vendors overseas) and not direct from a local hobby shop that imports them, would these new trade tariffs even matter?
Would an online Hong Kong hobby shop charge more for one specific country with trade tariffs and their currency to buy kits than say from every other country and their currency? That doesn't sound like good business practices...singling out one country just for more money at a higher price.

While it may happen,Some say it’s all posturing for negotiating, neither country really wants a trade war, just looking for better deals.I guess we will have to see.

No, the hobbyshop in China wouldn't charge more, but the kit would have to clear customs when arriving in the US (coming from China the customs guys would have a second look, I guess) and then you would have to pay the tariffs if you want to receive your model...

Would it not qualify for a low-value invoice?

We're safe:

That's a list of US to China imports that China may put tariffs on - not China to US. Is there still any large-scale (as opposed to garage industry) plastics industry at all in US that produce model kits? Maybe Trump should look into that and make (United States of) America great again.

Doing one kit a month would still take me 10 years to go through the stash...without ever buying another. I'm sure things will work out by then.

One per month? Guess I'm "good" to at least 2130! Now, getting a bit more realistic about how fast I actually get kits done... let's say... Perhaps "good" to around 2700 AD or so!
