I am thinking of getting Dragons Pzkfw IV H kit 6611. I was reading about the molded on zim. Is that zim pattern and location standard or is it atypical? I was reading about something not being on the hull sides and on the turret shields but not the turret sides. If this is atypical does anyone make zim for the missing areas?

According to an IPMS review, the kit is supposed to be built to represent a specific Hitlerjugend tank, but since it lists several other schemes in the directions, and it is apparently loaded with sprues, there may be the necessary parts in it already. I haven't seen shots of them, so I can't say 100%, but it seems promising. At any rate, it is a good kit regardless of what you want to make from it.

The zimmerat application to the turret schurzen is correct. Zimmerit was not applied to the turret itself. It was only applied to the mantlet. So, the kit is correct.
Initially, even the large schurzen panels had zimmerit. There is a good pic of one in Panzer Tracts 4-3. However, this was quickly dropped.

Hi. Most of the Pz.IV mid vehicles had zimmerit on the schurzen...i did quite a bit of research into the Hitlerjugend panzer IVs in Normandy and could only find one ("837") that did not have zimmerit on the schurzen. It was a late version though.
Also, the famous "634" of the Panzer Lehr at Villers-Bocage had no zimmerit on the schurzen.
All the others that I've seen did have.

Thanks for your replies. I am assuming then that this was a typical pzkfw IV mid zim pattern.

Ausf. H production ran from May 1943 to February 1944. Zimmerit was introduced in September 1943. So, a mid-production Ausf. H received the initial factory application. The Dragon pattern looks correct for the Sep '43 application
The Dragon kit also has the correct schurzen type for a Sep '43 build. Production was shifted in this month from the Series I mounting style to the Series II mounting style (triangle plates on the rail)
