I'm working on the Tamiya IS2m, Oder front on the drive to Berlin 1945. After removing the fenders for replacement I wanted to leave off the front sections but did not find anything on Google about how the upper hull casting looks where it joins the nose.
Is the hull rounded like the nose section, or did it have an edge? Rounded edge, blunt edge, sharp edge?
Apart from a few small parts the model is up to the point where I have to wait for tracks, an Aber gun barrel and some fender PE.
I compared an old shelf queen IS2 to the Tamiya kit. I prefer how Dragon did the hull rear, but I think the Tamiya kit is more accurate detail wise.
Next up is an ISU-122, or 122S.

XXXX! It dawned on me last night that Tamiya molded on the dozen or so lift rings on the back deck and rear plates. So I made up a set to have 3D printed. I based my version off some pics of a ISU-152 rear plate. While I was at it I made up a couple head lights based more on the Miniart SU-85. One with the reflection glass and bulb inside, one with out. Once I have the design tested, and it is good, I'll put it up at Shapeways.

Most would have had a rounded cast edge to the front of the hull. There is a variation though of the models produced at the Utzm factory that have a sharp edge because they were made out of welded plate steel. The DML "Chinese Volunteer" version of their IS-2 kit has the option to build that way (if that's the one you have) and the Tamiya kit represents a tank with a cast front hull so it should be rounded

I wasn't aware that model had a welded plate nose. I wish Tamiya would do that version. The Tamiya nose is cast and rounded. What I am needing reference on is the upper hull where the lower edge flares back. Is the lower edge rounded or sharp edged. I've seen a model with the edges rounded, but I can't confirm the details.

Oh my mistake, yeah if your referring to area that would connect to the fenders, it was pretty sharp edged. Basically if you're leaving the fenders off, everything looks like it should as it is now.

Finally got the Shapeways parts. Well, the headlights are not going to work, but the lift rings are good.
The best I can do picture wise. I am going to make the sprue longer so all you have to do is drill a guide hole and insert the sprue. On the Tamiya kit the lift rings are too small, and solid. Once I have the sprue fixed these will be up at Shapeways.

Yes, the Tamiya JS2m and the JSU-152 share the same rear hull, so the lift rings can be used on both models.

After looking over the fuel tank mounts I opted to try a 3D printing. If they turn out...

Yes, I call my site Tankmaker:

I also have a few T-34 related parts coming up for sale, after I checked the right boxes on the product listing!
