Were M113's generally called "Gavin's"? Presumably after WWll Airborne General Gavin. I read only one reference to M113's Gavin.

Only one person referred to them as such, he has an obsession with renaming the vehicle and sees it as the solution to all the Army's needs.

Who is that? In the attached text the name "Gavin" for M113's is used frequently:

I was in 113 s for about 10 years and we only called them "tracks". Never anything else. Ever.

The wacko who owns Combat Reform has pushed for the name for years and thinks the M113 is the greatest vehicle ever built and the answer to any problem that you can come up with. No one else calls it the Gavin.

I spent almost five in them. We called them lots of things, none of which should be used around children and nuns.

It doesn't make sense that an armored vehicle would be named after an Airborne commander either. I spent 30 years in the Army and never heard anyone call it "the Gavin".

I 2nd that about the nut head who wants to change the name to "GAVIN!"
As for the sight that you mentioned that talks about "Thunder Run. There are several guys here on Armorama, to include myself, HeavyArty(Gino), Robert Burik, Brent Sauer, Jim Lewis, John Charvat, Curt Basner, Lawrence Goh, and others, who are in constant contact with many of the brave men who where there on that day of "Thunder Run." Any of them and all us older Vet's will say that "Gavin" is no way, no how, nor will every be called "Gavin."

That site is run by the individual with the obsession, we don't invoke the name lest he make an appearance. The -113 has been called a lot of things over the years, but Gavin is definitely not one of them.

Mike Sparks strikes another innocent down with his quest for renaming the M113 to the Gavin... We called it either a One-One-Three or a PC, never a Em One-Thirteen. I do find Mikey's ranting somewhat humorous that this "renaming" persists as the M113 enters the twilight of its career with the US Army.
Oh well...

Right! So "Tracks" it is. I wasn't sure how seriously to take this guy as sometimes his narrative had a decidedly hostile tone, and at other times, sarcastic...hmmm, sounds like me!

Just for the fun of it:
I Googled M113 Gavin and found a s**t-load of Youtube clips by a few different users. I took the opportunity to add a comment to many of them that Gavin never ever was/is/will be a name for the M113.
I hope I didn't upset the person who uploaded those videos to Youtube ...
He was even selling coffee mugs and pins connecting M113 and Gavin.

Hmmmm.....putting 2 & 2 together here and coming up with "8". Let's see-- 2nd Lt + 1Lt + NCO + enlisted soldier + Marine + Airborne + US Army Reserve + M113 expert= ? Sorry, but my math keeps coming up with 8--- Section 8. Awful young looking too for "30 years of experience". 😂

Two cubed is 8 as in 2 x2 x2. So mathematically it does come up 8.
PC, 1-1-3, track, poppa charlie. I heard PC so much referring to 113's that whenever anyone mentions PC as personal computer my first thought is still of an M113.

I've never heard of this "Gavin" name before. Lucky, I guess. In Canadian use, they were frequently referred to as a "one one three" or a "carrier".
