Maybe it should be called Gavini instead, since Aris is an Italian company ...

Oooh boy...... here we go again!
Having gone "off the ramp" in an LVTP-7 in my youth, I wouldn't want to try it in that thing!

Understanding that not everyone has been in the military, I'll offer the following:

1. The M113 series has never, ever, been referred to as a "Gavin" either officially OR un-officially.

2. In my career, I heard them referred to as M113s, '113s, "tracks", "PCs", or "ACAVs" (Vietnam usage). No manual or document I ever saw used the name "Gavin".

3. The name "Gavin" appears to have been invented by an internet personality who pushes it on others while driving a personal agenda. I consider this an insult to Gen. James M. Gavin, who was a great airborne leader.

It is common for people to get confused by the name, and to assume it is real/true. It's not their fault, and we can only hope to educate.

It's also a shame that this "name" still pops up now and then. I thought it had been laid to rest also.

Remember when Tamiya and Bandai labeled the M60A1 as the Cheyenne?

If anything they might have considered some native American name for it. It might have been thrown around when they were playing with the MICV-65, XM701 to the XM723. So if there is any reality to it, it's a passing reference in some obscure memo of the minutes of some meeting like the one at the beginning of the movie Pentagon Wars.

In which case it is pure fiction.

And the cynic will tell you that nothing is as fictional as history.

If we spam the whole internet with the message that the G-name has never been and will never be connected to the well known personnel carrier then maybe, just maybe, there will be enough search hits on Google saying that G**** has nothing to do with the M113
Sort of drowning out the other campaign

We could try that, Robin. I still think driving a stake through its' heart and purifying the remains with fire along with never again invoking the good general's name in connection with said armored vehicle and causing the mention of he who must not be named in connection with his obsession would be a far more effective course of action. Why couldn't sleeping dogs have been let lie... why, why, why? (with a nod to Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding)

I watched one of he-who-must-not-be-nameds videos and he attributed the most miraculous powers to the "Gavin". Even showing a destroyed one, literally nothing but a pile of chunks of aluminum debris and road wheels and claiming it had been repaired in weeks and returned to service.

Unless it's name was Christine that "Gavin" was good for nothing but recycling into beer cans.

Google never forgets, ever ...
Covering up the muck with solid layers of truth will push the fake news back to third or fourth page of search results where nobody will bother to look at them.
The stake through the heart does have a certain appeal though I could fancy being a stakeholder in that plan
