My 7 year old son built the Motorworks 1/32 scale M24 Chaffee. This kit comes pre-painted with all markings and weathering done. This was bought at a Wal-Mart for $5 on clearance, but is regularly priced at $14.97.
Assembly is very basic and begins by adding the one piece tracks to the pre-assembled lower hull/suspension. The upper hull is screwed to the lower hull and the various boxes, cans and packs are snapped into place. The .50 cal is assembled and snapped into the turret mount. The kit gets finished by putting the turret on in the tradional manner.
The tracks roll, all hatches open, the turret sponson box opens, turret traverses, gun elevates, ball gun moves as well as the .50 cal. The kit comes complete with a pair of painted crewmen.
I helped my son tighten the screws securely, but he built the kit by himself. It probably took him about 10 minutes with supervision. He had a lot of fun building it, and that's what counts.

Great job! Looks like he's well on his way to enjoying a great hobby w/ his pop.
My 7 yr. old prefers those articulated mech-type things to tanks and trucks, but at least he is getting involved.

Congrats to your son Rob!!! My one is almost three and wants to read my Modeling magazines before I can do it. Unfortunately at the moment he's specialized in destroying kits instead of putting them together...

Thanks for the compliments. I showed my son the photos and he read some of the earlier comments this morning (snow day here). Here's the link for 21st Century Toys, the company that manufactures the kits: http://www.21stcenturytoys.com/products/model_kits.html

great idea those for kids I should get one then I might atcually finish a kit!
