Would the British Sherman Mk. III Dragon #6313 kit be good/used for a Eyptian M4/FL 10 Sherman converison

Hi, i have the dragon kit shown. It is based on the m4a4 heavily modified. Refered to also m4a4 tranforme. A sherman v would be the best starting point.regards jason

The FL-10 conversions were all on M4A4 Sherman V hulls. The prototype in France was on an M4A1. So no, an M4A2 Sherman III is not the right starting point.

You may be slightly confused because Egypt did have some M4A2 75mm tanks. The FL-10 conversions had the A4's A57 multibank petrol engine replaced with the GM6046 twin diesel taken from those M4A2s, which were considered obsolete. The exhaust was fitted below the rear overhang. You may well ask why they didn't just convert the M4A2s in the first place. But they didn't.

the M4A4 they use was re engined with the twin gm deisels

Dragon kit = very poor value for money. You might be better off keeping the EBR and getting hold of a Dragon M4A4 (same basic kit!) and a TMD exhaust muffler. You should find an M4A2 engine deck in the M4A4 kit anyway. I have a Cyber Hobby M4A4 boxing and it certainly has the A2 deck and rear plate in it. In fact every Dragon M4 I have seems to have the A2 deck parts included. You just need a piece of card for the extra plate to fill the gap between the A2 deck and the A4 hull, as done on the real thing. The FL10 conversion retained the M4A4 style rear plate. A TMD M4A2 muffler is $6.50.

Have the parts to do just that. I also picked this up for the gap.

If I recall, been a long time ago, the dragon hole is a little smaller then Tasca, so some slight sanding is in order to fit.

That's your best bet. The Hobby Boss turret is based on the old Heller item and the front portion of the turret base is too thin. Not noticeable if the canvas shroud is fitted, but a big problem if you want to do the early version fitted to the M4A4. The model part should have an edge two millimeters thick, onto which an L-section rubber gasket was bolted to seal the joint. Dragon includes this (however, they also include the mount for the canvas shroud, which will have to be sanded off).

EBR-VTT APC conversion? Or how about backdating it to one of the prototypes? The pre-war 201 40P prototype with the original oscillating turret with the 20mm gun - the one apparently lost somewhere in N Africa - or the post-war EBR-201 with the non-oscillating and relatively simple FL3 turret.

I found a OLD Dragon M4A4 w/60 Ib. rocket kit #6041 in my hobby room

I found it in the back on the shelf

After blowing off the half inch of dust I checked it out and it should work

As a bonus it comes with a early Sherman turret which I can mount to a Tamiya M4A2 hull to build the IDF "Tamar" Sherman

Old? It's from 1995. But it certainly has not aged well. That issue M4A4 kit had the initial Dragon hull which had some problems. Too long for one thing. If I remember correctly you had to saw off like a 1/8 inch of the very rear?

Once upon a time the MP models conversion hull was seen by many as superior and that was a crude piece of plastic, but it was 1995 after all.

There is a kit by Takom for the AMX-13 with Chaffee turret.
The Chaffees with FL-10 or FL-11 turret seems to be a lot less common, maybe it was only an experiment ...
